>> joined now by gary ackerman who is a ranking member of the subcommittee on middle east and south asia. he is a democrat from new york. congressman, your thoughts at this hour?

>> wow. we were ready for one historic announcement, and instead we got a different one. i think it was almost like a sadistic move. the rumor that was going around that he was going to make an announcement that everybody seemed ready to accept as his final good-bye, was, instead, a sadistic tease up to the crowd to make this announcement and it seems to me like he just might have lit the final fuse. this thing has been on a slow burn for quite a while, and now i think the situation is going to border on the explosive over the next 24 to 48 hours.

>> as one of our legislatures, our governors in this country, supervising this part of the world, how good is our intelligence in countries that are not egypt right now?

>> well, intelligence is something that’s a very iffy thing. we don’t know, except we know where people are nervous, we know which governments are nervous. it’s about everybody in the middle east from israel to saudi arabia to sir ra to you just name it. the street is watching this very carefully. governments are very carefully watching this. ruling families are at the edge of their seat and everybody is taking a different message from this.
