I’m Mad As Hell. How About You?
August 10, 2011Yesterday, on TV, I exploded. I spent two minutes giving a primal yell at our political system, demanding the extraction of our money and dignity end. It was my most heartfelt and emotional moment on television, ever.
And the emails poured in. I hit a chord, because it’s something we all feel. Take a look.
With the markets in turmoil and the global financial architecture groaning under the weight of fraud and corruption, it’s a good time to think about what leadership would look like. Believe it or not, we have had good leadership, purpose, integrity, and aligned interests in this country.
In 1961, President John F. Kennedy faced a dilemma — how could he direct our intense competitive passion with the Soviet Union in a direction other than war? The answer was his call for America to beat the Soviets to the moon. Kennedy understood power; if he did not lead us towards peaceful productive competition, that same animus would have turned violent (see this key memo on the real rationale for the space race). So he took the passion and focus of our society, the technology of war and missiles, and turned it into a great mission to explore space. He gave us a shared goal.
But that’s not the full story. Kennedy also demanded we use the finest scientists and engineers to design the rockets, and made sure that the path to the moon was based on the best possible solution to get there. For large rocket boosters, he was open to chemical, nuclear, liquid fuels, or any combination. He did not put a commission of astrologers in charge, and he did not put political cronies with no scientific background in charge of designing the rockets.
We had a shared goal, and we had a problem-solving process with integrity and aligned interests. Kennedy was the leader of this initiative, but Americans at that time, possibly because of a shared experience in World War II, had a shared purpose. They believed in prosperity as a goal, and they had a shared set of problem solving values to get there. They believed in education, in health and welfare, in mutual security, in dignified work and in Americans making things. The moon shot didn’t just avoid war with the Soviets, it created the largest surge of American students into math and science in history.
Today, we face the same demons as decades past. We have passion, and focus, and we want to compete. What we lack is a set of shared prosperity goals, and a shared problem solving values to get there. There’s no consensus, for instance, on the need to solve the problem of climate change. But even where we have some consensus, say on creating jobs, there’s no integrity or aligned interests in how we’re approaching the problem. It’s well-known in DC among lobbying firms that every policy initiative must be wrapped in the shared goal of creating jobs. It’s unclear whether anyone there has that as an actual goal, but even if they did, there’s no integrity in the way they are going about creating jobs. We still trust the same corrupted economic establishment, an establishment with no ethos of the importance of problem solving. Astrologers (like S&P) are in charge of job creation.
So now we are locked in a war of ideas and mechanics in a battle for power. But power to what end? The political solutions proposed by DC today are the opposite of Kennedy’s moonshot. We are taking our collective passion and focus and turning it toward manipulating power for the self-preservation of a few instead of working together towards shared goals with shared values knowing our ideas and mechanics will change as long as we try to get there.
Whether it’s full employment, clean energy, building a bridge, whatever — there’s no mutual consent to a set of shared goals, integrity on how to achieve them, or aligned interests. Even where there are policy discussions on, say, how to cut our debt load, it is the opinions of discredited ratings agencies that seem to matter. So our choices are organized around austerity measures that we know will not cut debt loads. Again, it’s using astrology to get to the moon.
I’ve realized, over time, that it isn’t policy ideas we need. We need, as citizens, a shared purpose. And we need a commitment to integrity of process, and aligned interests so the incentives exist for all of us to contribute. You can talk to billionaires — and I have — who are scared for their children, for their country, and for the world. And if billionaires can’t create the changes we need in the machine, if Congress can’t, if the President can’t, then we must look to ourselves.
When Kennedy called for the country to go to the moon, he said that “no single space project will be more impressive to mankind… and none will be so difficult or expensive to accomplish.” The difficulty and expense were great problems to overcome, not reasons to shrink from greatness. He said we would experiment with different rocket technology, “until certain which is superior.” Every engineer, politician, and bureaucrat focused on the overall goal — not how to look like America was getting to the moon to get power and credit, but how to actually do it. And it was not his project, or even the project of the astronauts who went there. “It will not,” he said, “be one man going to the moon… it will be an entire nation. For all of us must work to put him there.”
This is shared purpose — Americans paid taxes, worked on rockets, trained as astronauts, cleaned NASA buildings, or did whatever they could do — to get each one of us to the moon using shared values to solve problems that got us closer to our objective. Later on, the space station in the 1970s, using even more advanced technology that could have been used for war and weaponry, helped us develop a new cooperative posture with the Soviet Union, cooling off the Cold War. This remarkable problem-solving value set helped create not just leadership in the space program, but the technological spinoffs we enjoy today.
This is the spirit we need today. We need to fight against the great ideological machine that lacks purpose, lacks integrity, and lacks aligned interests. The first step is to recognize our own place in it. If we believe that our problems are all due to the Tea Party, or Obama, or corporate power brokers, or liberals, then we’re lacking the integrity necessary to reach any goal. The reality is, by boxing ourselves into a tribal two-party state, we are all part of the machine. And so, in order to change it, we must simply change our own minds. We must reorient our own ways of thinking, to a leadership driven model of citizenship. It isn’t enough, or even necessarily important, to care about which politician is in charge. We must seek within our own lives and our own politics, food, culture, families, and schools, values. We must share a set of prosperity goals — full employment, clean energy, patient driven health care, high-quality universal education — and push our leaders and ourselves to achieve them.
Ultimately, peace and prosperity will not be made because we get rid of the animal instincts within us, the competitiveness, the passion, the need to argue. It will happen because we will use those instincts, as we did with the moonshot, to build a society that lets us take care of each other and solve our problems. And so we must figure out how to stop giving our consent and legitimacy to an unthinking mechanical beast that runs our lives, a beast which enslaves us to accounting mechanisms like debt ceilings instead of the shared prosperity we seek as a culture and society. We must figure out how to restore the integrity necessary to actually solve our problems and we must understand how to align all of our interests so we each have the incentives to solve them. That way, we can ensure our bridges don’t fall down and our job creation initiatives actually create jobs.
I have no doubt that by rededicating ourselves, another moonshot is inevitable. That’s just what happens when problem-solving people dedicate themselves to prosperity as a goal, make sure that integrity is the keystone of how they achieve it, and align their interests so it is doable.

I STAND BEHIND YOU For SURE—Y don't you run for PRESIDENT DYLAN—we need someone who is PRACTICAL–Numbers DON"T LIE—no hand's on–heel stomping–ass kicking person is running for office–they are career politicians who I DON"T TRUST will get the job done! THey will fall prey to the weak thoughts of their cronies
President Ratigan has a good ring to it!!!
I had an opportunity a couple years ago to have a similar discussion with Gene Kranz, former Apollo mission director, on the fundamental need for a national "quest". It would certainly appear, given the multidimensional challenges and benefits of solving our energy challenges (climate, national security, powering innovation), that it would be the logical candidate for our collective attention. I passionately believe that if we put our best and brightest on this problem (including those around the world who wish to come to the USA to pitch in their talents and skills) – instead of our best and brightest delivering the perfectly targeted ad or manipulating the financial markets via high frequency trading – we can make real progress and have real solutions in under a decade. We also need to open up all of the intellectual property that results from any government funded initiatives to any US companies who wish to apply it for further innovation – much the way the technology from the space program impacted so many other innovations – but with an eye towards broad commercialization and application from the very beginning.
You've hit a nerve with a lot of us, and I hope we can find leadership in Washington that is willing to stand up and issue the challenge and back it up with new ideas as to how to achieve it. The last thing we need is another program that simply lines the pockets of special interests, the politically connected, and the beltway bandits. This needs to be inclusive. It needs to create real jobs. It needs to be focused. It needs to have concrete goals and objectives. It *can* be done.
Excellent, Rick. I have spoken of this many times among my small circle of friends, and have yearned for any leader, Red or Blue, to have the courage to say …" I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goals, before this decade is out, of reducing our imports of foreign oil by 75%, and of launching a national effort, on a scale comparable to the Apollo Program or the Manhattan Project, to discover and bring to market, alternatives to carbon-based fuels. No single scientific or economic project in this period will be more impressive to mankind, or more important for the long-term economic and environmental health of our country; and none will be so difficult or expensive to accomplish."
Keep up your thoughtful commentary.
I suggested last week in Washington Post blog that we use the 10th anniversary of 9-11 to catapult a movement such as you suggest. We have gotten so far away from the unity of that day and time. We can get it back by coming together with a united focus of a great country again by the 20th anniversary.
I think, though, We the People will have to demand and lead it.
I'm a middle class steelworker who gets screwed by the political system I had my fist in the air during the rant yesterday you got it they in DC don't please run for Congress we need someone like you
Thanks you have taught me so much about the workings in Washington.
i’am pissed to. at this point i dont quit know how to go about it but they need to know that we are not stupid.
Have a platform as a broadcaster? Use it for good. As Google says "do no evil." So few broadcasters habe the stones to actually use their platforms for good. You do. Every once in a while you've got to tell it like it is. Great job.
YOU ROCK! Ratigan for President
BRAVO! BRAVO!
I only wish and pray that the president enacts your vision of leadership with REAL "Change We Can Believe In".
This is what 99% of America wants. If he took on the exact stance on our major issues like you vented about, he'd get all the campaign funding he would ever need from the people (instead of the corporations and banks) and would win 2012 in a landslide.
Thank you for what you are doing and keeping the conversation going. The Dylan Ratigan Show — the only political show on TV worth DVRing everyday.
The reason I watch your show is I know I'm going to get substance. You call out the yada yada's on both side of the aisle. Yesterday, was nothing short of spectacular! You spoke for millions of people yesterday. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!
Great post, Larry.
Rail against the dying of the light! Keep it up, Dylan.
Thank you for being mad as hell. First genuine moment in politics I have witnessed in a very long time.
Brilliant! Non-scripted angst and indignation.
Dylan you are so right. Saw the rant live and stopped dead in my tracks…. finally an unequivocal statement of facts Please continue to take your intelligence and passion to the people. Many of us are listening.
You're on!
We need a million more Americans just like you. Indeed there are ten million, but we have forgotten the principle of personal sacrifice for the future of our children. The "Me" generations will be the future servant generations unless we too speak up publicly, openly, and without fear of the terrorist federal government and it's laws designed to keep us in fear.
There will be revolution in America. It can ONLY be now, when we dwarf them in numbers and when we could easily overtake our government, by force if necessary, as our constitution guarantees we have the right and personal responsibility to do.
We MUST Vote NO-CONFIDENCE on our ballots in November. We MUST DISREGARD FEDERAL LAWS and MANDATES. We MUST PULL OUR MONEY OUR OF BANKS, we MUST not only DEFAULT on CREDIT, but DEMAND in UNISON the DEFAULT of Americas debt.
Wipe the slate and prosecute those responsible, after we have established a CONGRESS comprised of Constitutional defending AMERICANS.
We have forgotten. YOU and I are the American Government. Who can stand against US?
We are ARMED. We are FREE. We are PISSED.
I, ah, don't this this is precisely what DR was thinking…
It's an honor to receive the wisdom of your words…WORDS OF A LEADER.____You Don't beg criminals to stop what they are doing. The only way to bring about change is with Direct Intervention. When you intervene, you Physically and Aggressively SHUT THEM DOWN". quote from Paul Watson, Captain of the Sea Sheppards, a small group of Brave, Vigilant Volunteers fighting to save the lives of Whales.
.____"The Battles of Lexington were fought and won by a small group of colonists against the Full Force of the British Empire. Nobody gave them much of a chance. Patrick Henry called it…The Battle is not to the Strong Alone, It Is to the Vigilant, the Active and the Brave!!! Mr POTUS hear this man, your voice can be louder, use it.
As everyone else is saying, bravo!!! Finally I don't have to watch my television shaking my head watching drones tell me what I want to hear. Being a college student and worrying about a future in America, you put hope in me which I have not had in a LONG time. PLEASE keep it up. RATIGAN 2012!!!! DO IT!!!! I want to see you ranting on my television screen during a state of the union address and get things DONE!!!
Dylan, that a very good point you made, but why did't you go after the president too? I mean he is also bought and paid for by wallstreet. Anyways, isnt that how politicains raise money? Thats why the entire system is a joke. Every ad on TV ends up with something like "bla bla group is responsible for…this ad"…So whats the point…I am fed up, all my friends are fed up, Obama is not any better… You would think for someone with a not so lavish upringing he would be differnet some how…No Its all the same, that means we are electing the same group every year, and thats not republicans or democrats but the INTEREST GROUPS, BANKS , AND CORPORATIONS…there is no hope.
He goes after him/them all the time, he just doesn't rant all the time. we're talking about MSNBC.
We need a million more Americans just like you. Indeed there are ten million, but we have forgotten the principle of personal sacrifice for the future of our children. The "Me" generations will be the future servant generations unless we too speak up publicly, openly, and without fear.
Everyone is trying to live in the present. Imagination has been shutterred by big corporations too big too fail; we need to again imagine to create a better future.
Dylan — I remember you were one of the few (if not the only) voices on financial TV in 2008 apologizing to the public for not "getting it", for covering the stock market as if it's a big game. Thank you for that and thank you for continuing to tell the truth.
My wife and I are in our 30s, we make comfortable salaries, and we are starting a family. We are firmly middle class. I see the extraction of our resources everywhere. We are trying to save money for a down payment on a home, but where are we supposed to save? Our bank savings account pays less than 1% — we made 84 CENTS in interest last month. CDs aren't much better. The stock market is controlled by HFT robots and Fed intervention. Besides that, home prices remain artificially inflated (again due to intervention), making us quite wary. Our finances are more responsibly managed than Uncle Sam's (we have no debt), but we seem to be stuck. We get weekly offers for 0% credit cards, but to what end? Interest rate policy is not helping, it's hurting and it's pointless.
At the same time we're getting pinched and prodded on all sides. We make too much money for many tax breaks, and we're dangerously close to the $250,000 level that would make us part of the vilified class, "the extremely rich". The political rhetoric targets us for more taxation — a young family trying to get started — while banks and corporations get tax loopholes gifted to them under the table. Don't get me wrong, we're thankful for our jobs and our quality of life, and we'll gladly share with others, but we have very little incentive to trust the finance/banking system or the political system going forward.
I wholeheartedly agree that solutions won't be found on either side of the aisle. I'm sick of the debate being defined and controlled by 2 sides that both miss the point. Do we need a 3rd party? Do we need another financial crash to bring people to their senses? We can try a grand project, a moonshot, but it needs to be tangible rather than dreamy. Let's try an earth-shot, or a school-shot, or a health-shot. Let's get creative.
Keep talking about this! Hopefully you'll inspire some ideas that can stand up in the face of a corrupt system. I don't know if I have any, but I'm willing to listen.
“We make too much money for many tax breaks, and we’re dangerously close to the $250,000 level”……”We are firmly middle class.”…… “We are trying to save money for a down payment on a home, but where are we supposed to save?”…..let me get this straight…you make almost a quarter of a million $ a year and your firmly middle class….in what country is that middle class ???….your trying to save for a down payment for a home…meaning you can’t save for a down payment for a home ???…the average home in this country is about 180,000 $…you can pay that in cash…you have no debt !!!…OMG are you kidding…here’s the facts…there are approximately 116,011,000 households in the United States. Only 1.93% of all households had annual incomes exceeding $250,000. 12.3% fell below the federal poverty threshold and the bottom 20% earned less than $19,178. The aggregate income distribution is highly concentrated towards the top 2%…which your pretty close…your posting insults the average american…and your crying about being close to paying more taxes…you don’t get these issues at all do you.
Scott,
For argument's sake, let's say RJL's household makes 230k/yr. His effective Federal tax rate is 37%, meaning $85,100. In this example, his real income is $144,900. But wait… what about his state tax rate? If he lives in CA, his effective tax rate is 7.5% of the 230k he made, meaning he pays the state $16,100. If we add his Fed and State taxes due, RJL pays $101,200 in taxes or 44% of his income goes to income tax. His after tax income is actually $128,800. Not poor by any means, but remember, he is spitting distance from someone who Obama would label as rich.
RJL's situation is similar to A LOT of small businesses. When discussing economic issues, it's critical tax implications are the centerpiece of the discussion… as Dylan noted in his rant.
I'm so glad you figured out their tax deductions without seeing their tax return….37% who are you kidding….if he lives in CA…maybe he lives in Florida….nice try…stupid I'm not…I'm sure you pay the full tax amount with no deductions or without the help of any right-offs yourself…Mmmmmmmm stupid I'm not
I come from a small farming town and if I lived there I could buy a mansion, but I live where my career is and cost of living is very high. You can't just throw out statistics and label people, and you can't compare our situation with that of billionaires. The average home in some major cities (including where we live) is well above 180,000 — more like 4 to 500,000. And we are about to go down to one income when we have kids. We rent a very modest house and have been responsible. We paid off mounds of school debt and don't take car loans, etc. Am I really the one you want to vilify? I am not your enemy, buddy. Either is Dylan Ratigan, and I'm sure he makes a good living too. As he should.
Look, I get it. I'm not asking for more. What I am saying is that a young family making $200,000 is not the villain here while banks and corporations get huge loopholes. I'm happy to pay my fair share, and I do every year in taxes and through charity. Now let's simplify the tax code and have everyone pay their fair share.
The American dream is about opportunity — we all want the chance to better our lives through education and hard work. My grandfather was a farmer and made it to 7th grade and farmed his whole life. My dad graduated from college and was an accountant as well as a farmer. I worked on the farm from elementary school through college, and then got a Master's degree so I could pursue a quality career. I don't need to apologize for any of these accomplishments — I wish everyone had the same opportunities. You are wasting your time if you think I'm part of the problem, and you're playing right into the hands of a politics that divides the country. We need to stop blaming each other and work on the real problems so that more people can get a quality education, a good job, and stay out of debt.
The average in the US of A….average home….not in your city or any other major city…most don't live in major cities…forgot about that farmboy…thank your lucky stars you have the ability to live where you do…living in a major city is becoming a dream for most americans….unless you live in a ghetto…glad you made better of yourself…and take full credit for it…" I don't need to apologize for any of these accomplishments" !!!! pat yourself on your back why don't you — I wish everyone had the same opportunities."…BUT THEY DON'T"….nice try…another self made man having no idea what it's like walking in a much harder working man's shoes without the same"opportunity" …of coarse luck and timing had nothing to do with…you just worked harder than anyone else…I don't know if your aware of this…but for most these days the American dream is slipping away….because of persons such as yourself saying the things you just said.
I didn't say I worked harder than anyone else. But I have worked my whole life, and I know what it's like to work hard labor. You look at someone's salary, give your knee-jerk reactions, and pay no attention to context (although I've tried to give it).
Why would anyone want the American dream when fellow citizens treat them like this?
But you see, this is what Dylan is talking about. The political climate has managed to polarize you so that you are spending time here trashing someone who is doing well, while ignoring the much bigger issues of how the flow of TRILLIONS of your dollars is being spent. Jobs are dropping, and corporations are attempting to lower the standard of living to create a local job market of low wage workers. Sure, that might stop offshoring, but the vast majority of new jobs being created are POVERTY jobs.
Financial services, Chamber of Commerce, corporate lobbyists, all working for the same goals: To keep as much as they can from you and give as little back as possible, while reaping the maximum number of benefits, most of which are unavailable even to the citizens. Sure, RJL is above average. I know it is easy to be bitter and angry at his success, and blame him for the problems, but the REAL problem is much larger. And that's the root of the issue. The REAL problem is so very big, so very terrible, and so very pervasive, that most Americans can't or won't fathom it. They cannot believe their is a concerted and organized effort to sell out their futures and convert them to essentially slave labor. It doesn't fit with their beliefs in their country, and so they turn to their neighbor and throw stones at his nicer house and his leased BMW.
Wake up, Scott! We don't have much longer, and we are all in this together, left or right. We need a country where all the sides come together and work towards a better country through transparency, compromise, and cooperation, not one that vilifies the opposition and demands no concession. We cannot govern by extremes, because our nation is a collection of many ideas and many people.
Sorry to be so hard on you RJL…but…I 'm from NYC…if you weren't left a home 95% can't afford to live there anymore..ALL my friends and I have left…middle class flight…rich moved in and made money on just being able to afford living there…my father owned a small business and my mother worked as a bookkeeper …had me at a very young age and couldn't afford for me to finish collage…believe it or not like most American families…google how many Americans can afford college or finish…no farm…no accountant for a father and no money for college…I worked for years with my father in the family business I thought would be mine after putting in 20 years of working from 5:00 am to 6:00pm 6 days a week …industry vanished business closed…married 3 kids and I joined the largest group of Americans the last recession crippled…cost me my marriage giving my ex everything…it wasn't much so the kids wouldn't suffer…one daughter becoming a doctor through scholarships…talk about working hard…my son having to join the U.S. Army to get his education and my other daughter living this economic nightmare…in my early 50's trying to make enough to start over again for the last 7 years…the earning power becoming harder with nothing to fall back on…just like most of the middle class…true middle class…no savings…spending all I make to survive…with the middle class income shrinking and the cost of living rising faster than I have seen in all my life…no sir …you are not "middle class"…no sir I did not have the same opportunities like you did…as far as working as I hard as I did as a young man…I doubt it… be very thankful for what you have…but don't for a second think your like most American families and the opportunity your life presented makes you a smarter…harder working…more disciplined human being than anyone else…the very small percentage of people who escape through hard work with no help will be the first to tell how lucky they are…g-d bless and just think about that before you pat yourself on the back… so you know…it is people like you who are part of the problem…you just don't know it.
Glad you can declare I'm part of the problem. You know me so well by the words you put in my mouth. You've made a lot of assumptions just because of my salary — wow, you know everything about me then, you can just dismiss my experience as another one of those rich people who got lucky. You must know how I've never done anything for anyone else. You got me, I'm a selfish jerk, and you know that because I got a good job and paid off my debt. You know that you worked harder than me growing up. Well good for you. Do you feel better now, trying to cut me down? What should I do now, give up my job so I can be cynical and bitter like you?
I am thankful for what I have. And I don't waste my time begrudging another man his own work and life.
Why would anyone want the American dream when fellow citizens treat them like this?
If you hadn't noticed your the only one who put up on this blog what you and your wife make…having no debt..owning your cars outright…obviously looking to buy a home 75-80 % of us could not afford…your amazing man…I was making comments on what YOU said…in your own words…read what you have been writing…your words are your words…no one on any blog here or anywhere else has given more information on their status financially…no one…read your words and stop justifying your not understand me commenting on the things you put up for us to read…don't like it…keep how your doing financially private…like 99% of everyone else…you said you were "middle class" I didn't say that…in truth your not…then you turn around and change your status too "upper middle class"…."You got me, I'm a selfish jerk, and you know that because I got a good job and paid off my debt. You know that you worked harder than me growing up. Well good for you. Do you feel better now, trying to cut me down? What should I do now, give up my job so I can be cynical and bitter like you?"…what was this…did I say any of that…No…you did…you name call me…I'm bitter cause I made comments about your giving your personal info out on the web…shame on you…grow up…if you put it out there and try to align yourself with the other 80% of people who are having hard times and I call you on it…you call me bitter…"I am thankful for what I have. And I don't waste my time begrudging another man his own work and life."…no you just waste your time telling everyone what you have and the debt you don't have…no you just waste your time like a child telling everyone how many more cookies he has than everyone else during snack time
….lol…It's my fault…I should have known better to comment on your post…your right….my bad.
I guess no one can comment on the corruption of the system then. None of us are starving like the people in Somalia, so we should all be quiet and count our blessings.
Scott: I certainly understand your anger, but to direct it at RJL the way that you are is unfair and not helpful. You're attacking someone who sounds like a real decent, hard working American who has made the best of the opportunities that he has had. Don't assume it's all been a cakewalk for RJL. We should never make that assumption about others, no matter what appearances may suggest. By your standards there is nothing he could do that you would consider acceptable when all that he's done is work hard, use his head, and have a good measure of success. Can't fault a guy for that.
True, he's not starving, but that doesn't mean that the challenges he's facing don't merit consideration any less than yours or mine. He's an American, too, and like the rest of us he's being screwed by the plutocracy that now runs our country. Learn to recognize who the real enemy is. It's not RJL. He stated that he doesn't mind paying his taxes, but he's angry over the fact that his hard earned money is not being taken by the US Treasury to help America. Instead it's making its way into someone's pocket. That puts RJL, you, me, and 99+% of us on the same side of this struggle. Understand that there are some millionaires and billionaires that also stand with us. We all just want to end the corruption of our government and economic system so we can get back to working for a reasonably decent quality of life. And, yes, when that happens the disparity in wealth here in the US will become more equitably distributed, as it used to be. An honest wage for an honest day's work, and to be able to afford the necessities.
The fact that not everyone has the same opportunities as others is all the more reason why those who DO have the opportunities should feel the responsibility to take advantage of them. And if those who do were as decent, civil, and fair as RJL sounds like he is, then this could be a great country once again. But the only way we're going to successfully tackle this huge problem is if we do so together. Remember, those who are doing this to us and our nation WANT us to fight amongst ourselves. Let's not allow them to manipulate us to their advantage any more.
Have to agree with Scott. If you're making anything over 200K/yr with no debt and you don't think you can afford a house then you're eyes are bigger than your bank account. You can easily afford a 4 bedroom home and then some on your income. Do you need something bigger? No. You could easily afford another 1-3% in taxes too and still afford to live like hogs in your own filth of money.
Sure we could afford a house. That's not the point. The point is we're trying to do things responsibly and NOT take on too much debt in the midst of a housing marking that is still artificially propped up (at least in our metropolitan area). We're trying to live within our means with babies on the way and going down to one income. Not exactly what hogs would do.
Those of you throwing vitriol my way should ask yourself — what is it you want from those of us who are "upper middle class"? I'll pay another 3% in taxes, but for what? To make you feel better? Do you really think that will solve our problems? Your anger is misdirected. Like I said in my 2nd comment, I wish everyone had the opportunities I've had. None of it was handed to me, but I've also been fortunate. Does this mean I can't be just as appalled at systemic corruption? You don't think Dylan makes 6 or 7 figures on MSNBC? Does that make his rant any less valid? If you won't count other honest and hard-working citizens as allies, you are playing right into the hands of status-quo politics. I'm arguing for the same common sense reforms that you are, and you react like I'm Lloyd Blankfein. I was just being honest about where I was coming from, and I'd like to be part of the solution.
RJL-Don't mind them. They are bitter and cynical as you said. I'm really sorry life dealt them a bum hand, but that's no excuse to hate everyone who didn't get the same hand.
Second, for all those basing claims on the average home prices and average income for the average American, there is no such thing as average. According to the last census the average family size was 3.14 people. The average family with children had 1.86 kids. You show me someone out there with 86 percent of kid and I'll start giving some credence to your rants about averages. The idea of a national average for anything is absolutely ridiculous as it needs to be indexed to a local baseline. Cost of living, salaries and home prices vary widely. Sorry to take away the club you want to use to beat those who are more successful than you.
To all of you who would attack anyone making more than 250k a year, you're all a bunch of suckers.
It's this mentality that people still firmly in the area of middle class are our enemies that's at the heart of the problem with fixing the tax code. You all do realize that once you're in the million+ range of salaries, there's an exponential explosion, right?? And you do realize that living on 250k a year with a family in a city is just as difficult as living with a quarter that in the burbs, right???
Look, we need to fix the taxes for the people making HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS AND EVEN BILLIONS OF DOLLARS. NOT the people who are still making less than 1 million a year. By fixing the taxes for the corporations, celebrities, CEOs, and other INSANELY wealthy Americans, we can have everything back.
Look at the people's budget. It proposes dramatic defense spending cuts (though only in the foreign affairs, not the domestic ones), fixing well-known tax loopholes, and adding new tax brackets for people making more than 1 million a year. They only propose taxing this new bracket at 49% per year, which is still a bit low in my opinion, but even so it's more than enough to completely balance our budget within 10 years – with NO other tax increases for anyone making less than 250k a year. THIS is the kind of budget we need right now.. and it's what Dylan's talking about. People aren't mad enough yet to actually start taking the money back from the billionaires, and anyone arguing with someone who's WILLING and TRYING to do good JUST because he's already got a comfortable salary should be ashamed of themselves.
People like RJL are our best bet for getting some change happening. Don't attack them – listen, learn, and propose something productive. I for one think you're "middle-class" as long as you're still working every day and cleaning your own house.
Yeah we're suckers….since when living in lower income neighborhoods is to be known as the "burbs"…better hope your children have the same earning power you do or better yet you have enough wealth to help them maintain your lifestyle…or they might wind up living in the "burbs" with us……my biggest mistake was calling it like it is on a mostly upper class blog…most americans don't even know who Dylan is…watch his show or have any reason to care about the stock market…THEY HAVE NO MONEY…you guys freak out going back to the pre Bush tax rates…thats all this is about…not taking your money and giving it to the poor everyday american…cause you know we just have our little greedy hands out……..
You should send a copy of this to the White House if you haven't done so already. And, it might not be a bad idea to send copies to your representatives, the editor, etc…
RJL, I commend you for answering the people zinging you. You do sound like a person hoping to contribute to solutions and not just slam those less fortunate. My friend and her husband are at an income level like you and your spouse. She is a genuinely nice, very hardworking, person. However, like you, she is not quite aware of the income level of the average American. She has commented here and there about how she wished she and her husband could feel a bit more secure…things of that nature…and these comments show that she believes she IS an average American. Neither she nor her husband feel or act special or privileged, though she does say that it was "pure luck" that she got into a particular area of the defense industry that has been and still is lucrative (and can't be done in India or China). I don't begrudge her success at all but I did show her some charts regarding the income quintiles and I think you ought to google some for yourself. Again, you sound like a reasonable and responsible person who wants to help and feel more secure yourself. But, your comments about your income not being adequate are akin to someone with 5 kids complaining about all the noise to a person who just lost one child and their remaining child has leukemia.
Well thanks for at least replying in a reasonable way. This will be my last comment because it's not worth it after all to get involved in these discussions. America is a big country, we all live in different places and different circumstances. But all of you telling me that I don't "get it" aren't listening to what I'm saying because you are blinded by the fact that I'm doing ok financially. I never said my income wasn't adequate and I repeated more than once that I'm thankful for what I have. I also mentioned my background to try to show that I was not born with a silver spoon or guarantee of success. The farming community I'm from is not full of fat cats, and my family was no exception. My point was — agreeing with Dylan — that US policies are messed up! And it is very short sighted to lump someone in my circumstances in with millionaires and billionaires, which is often in the political rhetoric. I'm trying to make a better life for my family just like everyone else. Unfortunately this discussion has shown me that people are still more willing to blame each other (i.e. calling me part of the problem purely because of my salary, without really saying how or why) than blame the corrupt system. The reason I'm commenting is because I WANT a more fair and equitable economy. I'm not sitting in a mansion eating caviar — I'm on your side. Dylan makes millions and he also is on your side in his way. But apparently someone who makes a decent living can't get involved without getting jeered. Well those of you who want change should think about how that's going to work before kicking out your allies.
AzSlim…I started this with RJL…and am very sorry for that indeed…but if you read his first posting you'll find he stated " We are firmly middle class." and proceeded to post how he is doing financially…clearly not middle class…that is what set me off..big time…it's a mind frame that is mentally dividing the have"s from the have-nots in this country…they are not one paycheck from losing everything like 75% of americans…getting them to agree and simply understand that and not deny the problem…returning to the pre Bush tax rates is not unfair and would create the monies needed help fix this mess…I'm sorry I was not zinging anyone…I was simply pointing out that new form of soft arrogance and denial anyone living a stable economic life that states " " We are firmly middle class." while pointing out their income is close to $250,000 a year…thats not zinging…thats telling it like it is.
I agree 100%-get the money out of politics-it ain't gonna happen-it's impossible to get people involved while people who are informed watch this country slide into the future of everything for the rich and nothing for the middle class-I'm as angry as you are but nothing wakes people up-it's frustrating to watch what's happening to this country-we're already a country of haves and have nots-what more do they want-Ted Kennedy said it years ago-when will the greed stop! The corporations own our polititions and control everything and they do it in broad daylight-how can we stop it? It seems hopeless-you just can't get the average person to see what's happening and they just don't want to listen-they just tune you out. I wish I had an answer.
You are correct, nothing wakes people up or removes the party blinders, it is frustrating. We are heading down the same path of have vs. have nots that the UK is experiencing now. Unless people wake up, tomorrow, or the next day, or 5 years in the future there will be a spark then all of us "have-not's", formerly of the middle class, will be rioting in the streets, looting.
Dylan, many of us are mad as hell but your diatribe sounded like you were pushing for Obama to make himself a dictator. Hitler was the result of this kind of fear so tread lightly. Had you and your ilk done your jobs in the media and properly vetted Obama things worldwide would not be headed in the direction that they are. Instead, the media, like many voters, was caught up in the novelty of voting for the first black president and did not listen to his words but put your blinders on and marched forward. He told all of you he was going to "remake" America which would require her destruction first. Many of your followers here are still blind and find your fix a solution? How is making Obama a dictator the solution to our problems? Wake the hell up people.
VD, I did not vote for Obama, but his being black had nothing to do with it. I didn't vote for him because I'm a Republican who had been hood winked by all the lies my party told and is still telling us today. Now I'm checking the facts and learning the truth about our gov't and I don't trust either party. I want change…take all corporate money out of politics, establish fair trade agreements, and restore stiffer regulations on finance to prevent future meltdowns due to fraud and greed.
I want manufacturing brought back to the USA…this service economy stuff is not working out. I want everyone to pay their fair share of taxes, including the wealthy. I want everyone, including corps, to pay US income taxes on all money earned, regardless of what country they earn it in. I want corporation loopholes closed and everyone to pay at least $1 a year in income tax. I want far more exports and far less imports.
Tried to reply, but looks like it all went straight to comments. Lucky you…it was a looong reply.
Get you head out of the sand. Or is it in a much darker, stinkier location? Either way, it needs to removed as well as your party blinders.
Sorry Dave, seems you totally missed Dylan's point. Watch the video again and listen carefully.
Keep up the good work. You were right on the money with the rant on CNBC. Why don't you run for President instead of the same old, same old we get election cycle after election cycle.
PLease whisper in the Presidents ear, I much prefer him to the other alternatives!
I love your passion for our nation. MAN! Keep kicking ass man!
You've identified the problem, but is it possible to change the course of this huge ship of state? I hope so, but I see many things aligned to push us down the path we're on. The real statesmen of this country have distrusted "the banks" and the financial system from the very beginning. I continue to be amazed that the rest of the world does not get together to blame us for the current world economic turmoil. Yes, we need to repatriate money… and jobs. You aren't the only one who feels outrage on this topic, by any means. I'm glad you have a forum to speak.
I wouldn't say struck a chord so much as "the only man on TV who said what needs to be said".
Obama won't come out and say it because he still wants to be re-elected. He makes political maneuvers and plays games. He's just another politician, he will never say that most of our government is bought out, since he is, too. If not, then why doesn't he say any of this?
Your used the word "We" 42 times in your excellent rant yesterday…I clicked on this morning to find your statement, read it and counted the all inclusive "we"s….that's exactly what "we" need….a "We Party"….not the self serving Tea Party…We surely can stand for We Endeavor….to effect the changes we need to put our country on the right path…We Engage all like minded people in our efforts to return our country into the AAA country it rightfully is…..there are plent of "E"s in my dictionary that would be useful in our anthem.
Where do "WE" start? AMP
Absolutely right. Good to see that somebody recognizes and calls out the TRUTH. Congress is bought and paid for and their primary concern is re-election NOT the betterment of our country. How do you fix it when those in charge have the money and power to shape the system to their will. The American public seems too lazy, or too distracted over the differences in this false 2-party system to get off their high-fructose-fed-butt and change things. The average American is trying to get their party to "win", but when you do that, we all lose.
Please America, stop worrying about your party, think for yourself. Let's let GOOD IDEAS win. Completely detach yourself from your party and evaluate each idea on its own merit. Do not think a certain way just because party leaders tell you to.
I want term limits for congress; career politicians are just bad news. I want the nuclear option on lobbyist, GONE. Campaign finance reform, each candidate gets X dollars and thats it period. The amount of money wasted on campaigns is immoral when folks are out of work and hungry.
Of course congress will never do those things because it is against their corrupt, power-seeking nature. And lastly, can we PLEASE get some scientists and engineers into congressional leadership??? Lawyers have dominated congress for too long, and look where it got us.
Mr. Ratigan, you are the only political commentator I watch on a regular basis. You said what so many millions of Americans are feeling on both sides of the aisle. You are truly a national treasure. Keep it up my man. Ratigan 2012!
Dylan – Thank you. You and Rachel are the clearest, most honest voices on what passes as "news" networks in this country. The people of this country are fed distractions and entertainment instead of the facts and hard reality.
The poison of unregulated private money in our political system has destroyed it's ability to function for the good of the people, and the country as a whole. We need a revitalized national movement to change the campaign finance structure to ensure our representatives are just that, representative of the people, not the purse.
May I make one request.
A major problem in the media is the bombast of the right and the left. Although I believe you have the facts on your side, you don't explain or verify your statements. I believe that is a crucial difference between the kind of thing that goes on in Fox News and other media sources–some media sources do have a concern for the truth and answer to it, others don't.
What you say is compelling but not always clear. What do you mean by 'extracted' for example?
You have the resources, I hope to get researchers to present factual data to support your claims. Write this out, verify it, prove it to the best of your ability. I am crossing my fingers your book has footnotes.
It's obviously much more work but the reality is that even when believe we KNOW what's true we must double check ourselves. If you are talking about the rot that's really infected the political process, the disturbing unconcern for facts is clearly a huge aspect to this.
Mr. Ratigan's comments are a breath of fresh air. He successfully summed-up in 2 minutes what many of us have been feeling for years.
The systematic "extraction" of the United States is underway, and has been for some time now. The political system is corrupt. The financial system is corrupt. There is simply no arguing these facts anymore. The only question is, how much longer are you whiling to put up with it?
Wake up, put down your iPads and Blackberries, and make a concerted effort to look around you and take inventory of your life. Look inside yourself first, and make peace with your decisions. Yes, despite your meager status in life, you too have been part of the problem, if by no other means than your habitual absence from the process of legislation.
Come to terms with it, admit it and move on. Once you've become "self-aware", you've taken the first step. Now, look at where our great nation is headed and resolve to become part of the solution. Become active, join a political party or even throw your hat in the ring and run for public office. Or, simply choose to buy American. No act is too small.
Take a deep breath, hug your children, kiss your spouse, and focus on the task at hand, and begin the process of rebuilding our great nation.
The Sleeper must Awaken!
Dear Mr. Ratigan,
Thank you so much for calling out BOTH Democrats and Republicans on this issue. I sincerely look up to Cenk Ugur and now you, Mr. Ratigan, after your show on MSNBC.
The Democratic party needs something with your passion and anger to tell the truth and how it is. You need to be the 'Democrat Rush Limbaugh/Bill 'O Reilly'. I hope that isn't too insulting because unlike them, you aren't filled with a disgusting bias or agenda. Maybe you are, but at least its one you have passion for, and sound like you're willing to fight for it. That's something I can get behind.
I have a tee-shirt that Marc Jacobs had designed during Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" tour-de-force that reads "Where Is The Outrage?" It is a little thread bare and the neck is now cut out, but I wear it with pride to the perplexed espressions of those around me. Now I bet I will get a few more knowing looks thanks to your honest take down of the political nightmare we are embroiled in. (As an aside, I find it HIGHLY ironic that Davis Guggenheim directed "AIT" and then went on to take down teachers in "Waiting For Superman." Shame on him… )
Thank you sir. Also, I am in love with you.
The only way to get money out of political campaigns is to pass a law that the Supreme Court can't overturn. This Court has put its stamp of approval on the current destructive situation! We must call for a law that only allows personal contributions and makes a low maximum per person. Dylan, you were excellent. If you start a movement, I will support it whole-heartedly and so will most Americans.
I agree with most of what you say Jslate, unfortunately I think the Supreme Court is also bought and paid for!
You expressed the anger and frustration many of us feel. I agree with you that the President MUST use the bully pulpit more–something he seems averse to doing. How can we citizens help force the issue? I know the obvious answers to that question, but it doesn't seem to change the dynamic in Congress. What can we really do to expose the "bought" congress for what it is, and make the necessary changes, outside of manning the barricades?
You nailed it! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Now run for something and I'll vote for you.
Way to go ….everyone other than our politicians know the problem
Mr. Ratigan, as a fellow "upstater", I applaude your rage! We need more voice in the running of this GREAT Nation. Alas, "the old gray mare ain't what she used to be no more!" Where have the educated ones gone?
Ooops, sorry. I'm from "upstate" I should have said Go-ed.
Part 1 of 2) You are 100% correct, but I think you have only half the picture. It is in fact far worse than you state. The problem goes beyond corruption and complacency to a false paradigm regarding the nature of the relationship between Government, Economy and industry. I do not know if the purveyors of the false paradigm believe in it themselves, or if they, being truly evil, are deceiving and manipulating the public conciseness. Either way the end is the same, “we the people” are being turned on each other an manipulated in the case of the Tea-Party, Republican and Democrat rank and file, to act against our own self interest. We are deceived into believing “Made in China” is the same as “Made in America” only much cheaper. We are deceived into believing that the labor unions are destroying the USA, when in fact it is the enemies of those same unions that are profiting off the systematic destruction of America. We are told by the Republicans and the Tea Party that the Democrats are evil, while the Democrat’s tell us that the Republicans and the Tea Party are evil.
Part 2 of 2) Well guess what America; those who point the finger are all evil! They seek to divide us, and turn us on each other, because while we are focused on fighting each other, we will not be focused on the evil they are committing to us! The rank and file of the TEA party is not wrong to be angry and to demand the change they believe is needed. However, stop and think who or what put the ideas in their minds of what the needed change was? They are good honest people, but they are deceived! In the name of “Good” they are being deceived into promoting an “evil” that will in the end harm them and their children. We need to stop the march to national oblivion before it is too late. We must stop fighting the wrong wars, we must stop fighting each other, and we must redirect our collective anger on those who have deceived and manipulated us through politics and the media and the market. We must take back America from the small minority who are controlled by their greed and evil impulses and as such conspire to gain for themselves vast wealth by forcing the vast majority of the Global citizenry into poverty!
Thank you, Mr. Ratigan. You speak on behalf of the many. Let your voice continue to be heard. We support you.
You said it how it is. Wake up Congress and President!
How to stop the madness >>> Put the word out, that at exactly 1:00PM, EST on Monday, the entire country should stop for exactly ten minutes. If you’re on the road pull over and stop. If you’re shopping, walk out of the store. If you’re at work, and you can, take your coffee break. If you’re walking on the street, just stop, and stand in one place and start to talk to a person standing near to you. Then at exactly 1:10 EST resume your normal activity. Then one exactly one week later at exactly 1:00PM, EST on the following Monday do it again, and again until every one has stopped! I guarantee, that will get their attention! Then when almost every one has stopped, increase the duration of the weekly stoppage by one minute pre week, until they return our country, and its Government, to “we the people”.
I'm left breathless. The truth is spoken. Thank you! It's truly a Howard Beale moment.
The problem with your suggested solution, Mr. Ratigan, is of course that our president is bought and sold as well. His eyes have been on the donor class all along. I'd like to hear you address that next.
It is and always has been up to We the People. And we are getting angrier and angrier — not just the Tea Party — We the People.
Tarir Square and London are not that far away. I pray for a peaceful awakening.
WE MUST start a REVOLUTION to take back OUR GOVERNMENT…WE have done it in OUR COUNTRY throughout the course of history and WE MUST do it again…keep it up. God Bless America.
YES!!!! BULLSEYE!!!! BRAVO!!!! AWESOME!!!! RIGHT-ON!!!!
Normally I don’t like pundits, especially the Limbaugh clones, because they are just ego-centric entertainers who appeal only to those who need “shock and awe” rants instead of insight. But this guy is different: he didn’t frame his targets in partisan issues; his central concern is the good of the people, not the party; he is not afraid to suggest that this country and its form of government may not be the best. I love it. I’d vote for this guy in an instant. Thanks for the heads-up.
Dylan, you are the mouthpiece for me and so many other viewers of your show. With your "rant" yesterday you expressed the frustrations of so many people in this country. I am so sick of the corruption that is so pervasive in our political and financial systems. You said everything I want to say and in the way I would want to say it. Thank you so much. Now , how can we get the changes that are so needed.
As long as the solutions is to have the politicians control trillions of dollars – directly or indirectly through regulation – there will be money in politics. If you want a powerful government, it will be a corrupt government, for the simple reason that power corrupts. The USA was originally designed to disperse power.
And the “teachers and cops” are government employees – while all the plants were closed and farmers suffer and small business disappears, they keep getting paid as if this was still 2006 with the real-estate bubble pushing property taxes to the moon.
Someone that doesn’t work for the government has to pay taxes for them to be paid.
And there is no mythological “rich” to tax – but most of them are rich from gaming the system to get tax money (David Cay Johnston’s “Free Lunch”).
How about simply stopping any loopholes or even direct subsidies (Kelo) to the rich? They want something, let them pay for it themselves.
“We MUST Vote NO-CONFIDENCE on our ballots in November. We MUST DISREGARD FEDERAL LAWS and MANDATES. We MUST PULL OUR MONEY OUR OF BANKS, we MUST not only DEFAULT on CREDIT, but DEMAND in UNISON the DEFAULT of Americas debt. ”
This is a brilliant idea.
If Ron Paul doesn’t survive the Republican primary, that’s exactly what I’m writing in.
I loved your rant! Best I've heard on the subject yet!
MAYBE (ok, unlikely but I can dream, can't I?) . . . just maybe . . . some strategist high up in the President's re-election campaign watches you Dylan (particularly this passionately brilliant rant) and sees that there's been ample positive media and fan reaction . . . maybe they'll see that either the President has to start modeling/channeling"TR" – or at least grow some cojones and stop conciliatory-ing the country to ruin. If only Pres. Obama would note Presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin's recent take that Pres. Obama seem to have taken on only 1/2 of the successful Lincoln formula: he gets the "get your adversaries in the same room with you", but he didn't employ the OTHER part of the Lincoln formula: the "but then after thanking them for airing their views, ask them to LEAVE THE ROOM as he's heard their views, and you the President will now take DECISIVE action.") So as he botched the Lincoln formula, he now needs to just model Teddy! . . . and listen to Dylan!
I had never heard of you before this rant started making the rounds (sorry – lol). You said what so many of us have been saying over a beer everyday! We are all mad as hell and sick of the BS being touted by politicians and talking heads from both the left and the right. The country is in deep trouble… now is a time for action, not petty political posturing.
Dylan Ratigan, you are correct. If you really want to know why this is happening simply check into the plan by the "Project for the New American Century" http://www.newamericancentury.org
They've documented their plans for America and the rest of the world over a decade ago and everything has been going to plan perfectly, pretty much unchallenged. They wanted the Wall St. economic scam of 08 and foreclosure bubble. They also want to get rid of unions, borders, no taxes for the rich, no welfare for those in need; a neo-con fascist dream – everybody else's nightmare.
Regarding the newly selected Supercongress: "All six Republicans have signed a pledge to Grover Norquist's Americans for Tax Reform that they will not vote to raise taxes…" – Huff Po.
Nuff said right there. This guarantees that a compromise will fail and the triggers will be pulled, so to speak, in order to destroy Medicare and Social Security. This has all been part of the plan for over a decade by "The Project for the New American Century."
All news media outlets should be reporting this news but they're not. Many of the people involved with "The Project for the New American Century" should be investigated and probably put in jail. BTW, it was this organization who cried out for a "new Pearl Harbor" then, 9-11 happened.

If only our president could be as blunt and straight-forward as you. That was the most refreshing bit of news I've watched in recent years. I hope this momentum continues and this trend for truth grows.
Even if you have no interest in running, you sound like a phenomenal leader. Thanks for the inspiration.
This is the letter I sent to Senator Harry Reid following your video.
Dear Senator Reid,
This is a formal request for you to step down from your position. You have abused us long enough. You have destroyed this state and this country. Your services are no longer needed or required. “YOUR FIRED”. Hit the road.
Sincerely yours,
Stateworker1
I liked you on CNBC fast money and your the only one I watch on MSNBC. You are so on target!!! I appreciate the research you do.
I believe your rant is exactly how majority of Americans feel today
Thank you, Dylan. For creating an incredible moment in news media history that will continue to echo for years to come. The truth, told plain and simple, with enough passion to awaken Americans lulled to delirium by pointless media debates that ignore the hidden corruption within our political system. Not only did you site the problem but stated the actions that the President must take to overcome our "bought congress". Thank you for having the courage to take the risk(in today's trivial media environment), to report on this critical topic with all the passion and emphasis that it deserves.
Exactly!! I like the idea that someone (you) finally told the whole truth about our broken system of government. We need people with ideas that help America in Congress and the Senate, not those who are bought and paid for by special interests. The Supreme Court really let us down with the Citizen's United ruling. It's even harder to stop it now than before, when the system was still broken!
I would love to see President Obama do exactly what you recommend he do, and do it NOW!
Dylan you should run for President!
Do kindly check your FEDEX mail.
We need innovation. On a national scale.
Everyone feels powerless.
People are just as mad as you.
The riots of London are not too far off with this level of frustration.
Dylan strikes a chord every American feels and many know that is not all that is going on and our news is not publishing it all. The White Hat Report has been publishing things going on inside that OB1 is trying to hide and is only focused on himself and his family. The White Hats have all the evidence before they publish, please thank Dylan for striking this chord.
Dylan Ratigan for President!
How long did you practice this Gig, Dylan….I've been raving like this since the day Bush claimed Aluminum Tubes and Yellow cake were justification to invade Iraq and people STILL look at me like I'm from Mars.
You're too firking late….and so is the rest of America…the GOP Deconstructionist Agenda has already sunk this Ship of State and nothing short of civil war will right it. The GOP hate machine has American's at each other's throats while the media creates side shows and plays patty cakes. Wow, you had a conniption fit…too little…..too late.
Where is Dylan? It's 4:00 and he is not at the helm. We watched him yesterday and could not wait to see him
today. What happened ?!
He called in to work. After yesterday I thought he was being treated for MAHS (Mad as Hell Syndrome) LOL. He called in at the end of todays show & I think he's working on his book.
Wow! I thought I was watching the Young Turks when you went off on that rant Dylan! Great work and great article explaining the way forward to solve this mess, I believe you hit the nail on the head… I still can't believe you used to work at CNBC! The first and hardest step will be removing the entrenched corruption and "cancer" already in place at the levers of power, and you are correct that an honest/willing president going before the American people and stating it as simply as you did and providing a framework for overcoming our problems (not a lecture like Carter did in the 70's, but he was right), it would go a long way toward restoring faith in government and removing the "cancer" as you so aptly put it. The problems we face today are not new, and they are not unsolvable, they are simply symptoms of our own human flaws (greed, laziness, apathy, self-interest) magnified by a broken system that rewards those flaws and the competitive nature of our system that requires that everyone exploit the same flaws/system in order to keep pace and profits up… It's plain as day for anyone to see that the "system" is broken, and it certainly won't be easy to fix it (there are already many powerful people/interests making a lot of money exploiting our broken system for their own gain), but if we all can "come to the table" as honest people and first recognize what is broken and then start with just a few small fixes, getting the ball rolling, I think we will all be better off in the long-run. I really like your example of Teddy Roosevelt as well, and I like to remember that although Taft actually broke-up more monopolies than Teddy, it was Teddy that got the ball rolling… Thanks so much for all that you do, keep up the faith, and keep up the GREAT work that you do. Yo are an inspiring and patriotic American…
I loved your rant and I think you have a great honest show
Dylan Ratigan for president. Whose with me?
I’m lost on this Madison, WI deal. No matter how one spins this, it isn’t good. Do the simple math on this. The numbers tells us this, too many voters want the Corps to take over and dissolve the Union.
It doesn’t matter if they are “uninformed voters.” We are harvesting our wealth only to give it to a few.
If nearly half of the voters back the New Right on this, where’s is the ‘hope?’ They have the Courts.
I having been posting to adnauseam that we really have but one party, “The Republicrates.” And their ‘duty’ is to convince the rest of us that ‘they’ are a two party setup. It’s like the line, “The greatest lie ever told, was that the Devil doesn’t exist.”
Our type of capitalist system has one basic flaw. It can always be corrupted with money, money, money.
Maybe not everyone can be bought off, but just ‘enough people’ can be. Ever since the end of WWII the bankers have slowly worked the system as to get the ‘uninformed voters’ to even pay (in their taxes) to fix the system to benefit the bankers. The Longest Con; “The rich will take care of all of us if we simply give them all the $$$.” They did it! We are all witnesses to this debacle and we are in denial.
Thanks for saying what so many people are thinking on TV! And thanks for also conveying the emotions that so many of us are also feeling! Perfect! Keep it up!
my wife and I consider ourselves independent Republicans, we vote not party but for the people. we voted for Mr Obama and quite sometime ago we made a decision that we will become agressively active to make sure he does not get re elected. he may have had the best intentions tostart but quickly proved to be ignorant of what matters, fisrt we need health reform but NOT before we got jobs back on track, we need a take Charge President not a pretty boy!. Look at the guts of the French President, he came back form vacation, called all key people together to adress their crisis, Our Pres first went campagining for funds to get reelcted then took on the 561 idiots in Both Houses. We need leadership that will force the clowns back form recess to do what they were elected to not too little too late platitudes and photo ops, shame on Obama for waiting two days to acknowledge the death of the navy seals, another example of his priorities. Now lest hope some smart democrat decides to challenge him and the republicans show us someone with the right stuff. Most of all God help us get through this pile of Dung they all created and we helped by electing suits and not substance
I happened to surf onto your show yesterday inflight on Jetblue from WDC to Long Beach, CA and was overwhelmed by finally hearing someone on the national stage voice the opinions that I and most of my circle of friends have been grumbling about helplessly on the highjacking of our country and economy by the bankers, middlemen who profit from global trade (regardless of where the work is done) and legally corrupt politicians, whose prime directive is to solicit their votes to anyone who'll finance their re-election (meaning the corporate PACs and lobbyists), while they suck the lifeblood out of our economy, resources, people and our youth! Meanwhile they try (successfully) to keep the masses distracted by encouraging the culture of celebrity and consumption (debt), while they become the new aristocracy of wealth!
What we need is our own Tarib Square or Peaceful Revolution to take our country back or start a legitimate 3rd party (the Americans First Party) so we can throw all the incumbents out regardless of whether they are Republican or Democrat…….because fundamentally they are all corrupt.
I was watching Dylan when he 'Went Off' yesterday, I stopped what I was doing, nervously listened to what he said, & began a 'Slow Clap'. I wanted to open my window and yell, 'IM MAD AS HELL & NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE'. I've been at liberty to watch Dylan 3PM CST since I was laid off my job I loved for 15 years last Nov. & still haven't found employment. Last week Ratigan explained this began with Clinton's bank deragulation, Bush starting 2 Wars with no taxes to pay & diminishing surplus, then Obama coming in and saving the criminal bastard banks. I learned something from Ratigan that day thank you! He is THE ONLY HONEST NON BIASED/NON PARTISAN human being on our TV, media, radio airwaves. When ANYONE on his show starts making 'excuses' or blames a certain party blah blah blah, Ratigan is THE ONLY ONE TO TELL THEM TO STFU AND QUIT WASTING EVERYONE'S TIME!! Great American Hero & I'd vote for him if he ever ran for President. Seriously.
Behind you 100%! It is time that we got mad as hell and tell them we aren't going to take it anymore. I want a flat tax, no exemptions, no tax credits, no deductions for ANYTHING! Just pay your damn taxes so the government knows how much is coming in and lives on its (our) budget. $1.00-$24,999 would be 10%; $25,000 to $59,000 would be 12%; $60,000 to $99,999 would be15%; 100,000 to 249,999 would be 20%; $250,000 $749,000 would be 25%; above $750,000 would be 28%. or something like that. I have reviewed 1040s in the financial aid industry that show the very rich pay less in taxes because of all the write-offs, deductions, exemptions and tax credits than a person who only earns $25,000 a year! It is disgraceful. No golf games, no drinks, no advertising, no kids, no mortgage interest, no charitable contributions, etc. Everyone pays a fair share, no need to file a 1040 because there aren't any write-offs.
I have been mad as hell since I read Bartlett and Steele's "America, What Went Wrong?" in 1992. These two excellent investigative reporters revisit this work earlier this year at http://businessjournalism.org/2011/02/07/barlett-….
I strongly recommend this book if you are interested in learning more about how the deregulation of the Reagan years began the long process of undermining the middle class. Bartlett and Steele were also among the first to warn about the dangers of an unregulated and enormous–compared to the real economy–financial economy, i.e., the economy that trades in complex derivatives of the sort that created and then burst the housing bubble.
Dylan was nothing short of fantastic yesterday. After watching I had a thought. Why isn't he on primetime? He's the only non-partisan/biased/bs pundent I see and believe me I watch all networks to hear all opinions! Nothing wrong with Matthews, Maddow, or O'Donnell BUT they all lean heavily to the left. Why don't they put a real honest non-partisan American on during prime-time PM hours? Ratigan is the only one that dismisses all Parties & explains why we are failing as a Country! MSNBC give DR a nighttime show now!!
There is a dangerous clot in our system, that in my opinion is the silent killer. Literally it's a silent killer. That is, the average American doesn't understand things more complex than the side of the political line they stand on. They want to understand, many of them, but they don't know how. You have woken many of them up. But I'd argue they cannot recall what you said and won't know where to go to learn more depth.
In order to obliterate this clot, or at least most of it, is to make the issues more pedestrian.Create a more tangible ways to grasp that their congress has been bought. Create the conditions that allow the average American to better examine the clot. We do this by "designing" a better understanding of the complex issues. We centralize these and proliferate it tirelessly. I am talking about using the Web, social media, animated infographics, video and broadcast.
Dylan, will you help me as I convene a group of people capable of designing and proliferating this clarity with indiscriminate transparency? Please put a call out with your platform that we need to design the conditions that allow more of our population to understand what is happening to them. Contact me if you are interested in this.
Mr, Ratigan, I applaud you. You are the one of a handful of people telling the American People the truth about what is wrong with our present economic system. I recently saw the Documentary "Inside Job" which portrays how our Government has been taken over by the Wall Street Investment Banks. I share your outrage and I am taking steps to educate myself about how banking, trade and the tax code act together to favor the rich at a detriment to the public. We must end the unprecedented access and influence of Wall Street over our government. Meaningful economic reform and regulation of the Wall Street Investment banks is one step we can demand of Washington.End Economic Tyranny, educate yourself, organize and take action. This Country belongs to the People not the Fraudulent Wall Street Government that is in place today, it is time to take our Country back. Sir, you are a true Patriot and I assure you, the education has begun, we are organizing and preparing to March on Wall Street on September 17th. Thank God for the Internet for it is a tool for the people to bring about true change instead of the false hope we have been sold.
DYLAN , IM WITH YOU ! BUT WHAT DO WE DO …. KICK THEM ALL OUT OF OFFICE I SAY !!!! THERE LINNING THERE POCKETS AND KEEPING US POOR !!! EVEN IF I WANTED TO MARCH ON WASHINGTON I COULDNT , THEY TOOK MY JOB , CAR HOUSE , AND MY RETIREMENT , I HAVE NOTHING LEFT , AND IM LIVING ON 600.00 A MONTH . POTATOS , BREAD , WATER AND IF I HAVE ANY MONEY LEFT I BUY SOME BUTTER !!!!!! ID LIKE TO KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE TO GO ON A VACATION !!!! IVE CLEANED HOUSES , PLOWED SNOW , REPAIRED A ROOF OR TWO , RAISED 3 CHILDREN AS A SINGLE PARENT , NO CHILD SUPPORT . I WORKED VERY HARD AS A WOMAN TO HAVE A HOME FOR MY CHILDREN , TO LEAVE THEM SOMETHING ….. NOW THERE IS NOTHING !!!!! GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!! THERESA TAALICEO
Theresa, You have already helped our cause. Just speak out, tell your friends and neighbors what you think, all politics are local, organize local demonstrations. We don't all have to March on Washington, all change begins at a grass roots level, form organizations to shore up your local economy, talk to your community leaders. As for your own plight, don't hesitate to ask for help from others, you will be surprised how many people will reach out to help you. Here in RI(14% unemployment), where I live we are stocking up our food banks with locally grown produce, donating anything we have more than one of (computers, appliances, clothes etc.) to those in need. Set up a local system of barter where services are traded for the essentials of life, food, clothing and shelter. Compassion is key to bringing about change for it is for people in your situation that we are fighting for.
Dylan … you're awesome! Thank you for telling the american people exactly what the hell is going on. I would hope that others take your cue and begin to act on it to protect the american people from the tyranny of the corporate oligarchs.
Mr. Ratigan the anger and frustration you have expressed is now rampant in this country!
The sleeping giant is about to awake! Look whats happening around the world, can taking to the streets be that far off in usa !
Thank you so much for what you do Dylan! Keep it up!!!
Hi Dylan,
I thought everyone knew about these inequities. You have Coporations insisting on lower wages for their own workers on the other hand the CEOs and top management groups will not lower their wages. Look a Verizon wanting to rollback benefits, meantime the CEO makes multi milllions of dollars per year, if he kick in 20% it would solve the P&L or Balance Sheet problem. Wall street has unregulated derivitives, which are at best, similiar to gambling or games of chance. they have perfected American Greed. These politicians are guaranteed by their sponsors, either re-election or a job after they leave government work. Politicians have nothing to lose sadly, most of them don't care about American Families, the poor or seniors. This is the Shock Doctrine at work. Republicans are trying to make governent not smaller but more dictatorial. They are crafting the Pinoche type governement, so that free markets can rule. Most Republicans are themselves being corrupted. They are the puppets to their corporate masters.
Google Ron Paul.
THANK GOD SOMEONE HAS HAD THE ' GUTS'!!! TO EXPRESS WHAT THE COUNTRY/ WORLD IS FEELING.NO MORE 'PONCING' REPETITIVE NEWS COMMENTS FROM FOLKS THAT TAKE US NO WHERE AND ARE WEAK, FEEBLE AND ILL DEFINED. IF OUR PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS CANNOT FUNCTION AS LEADERS FOR BEING ,'FINANCIALY ,'HOG TIED'. THEN WE SHOULD REMOVE THE LOT OF THEM BEFORE THE COUNTRY SLIDES AWAY. KEEP GOING DYLAN…..YOU ARE NEEDED AND MAYBE SOME WILL FOLLOW. MARGO
Dear Mr. Ratigan
Even someone from Denmark like me care about how your country is run, as your economy is vital to the world, and I'm sorry to say it so directly, but it's often embarrasing and painful to watch(also during the Bush Jr. decade). Also the vary propaganda medias spewing piles of crap out into the mainstream adds to the problem of the population being unenlightened, thus worsening the situation.
You spoke from the heart and it's about time somebody actually did just that. No biased bullshit talk, or political correctness, where your intentions are merely out to win over your opponent in a mouthoff or popularity contest, but on the contrary simply stating your concern passionately, expressing the importance of the grave state the country is in, and how f**ked up your congress and political system is.
Also in Denmark we are DAMN tired of the bickering in politics. We want changes and a government we can be proud of. Politicians who truly represent their people and understand the importance of working together. I dare say millions of people in the western world feel like this.
Take care!
Thanks for the rant! However, my first thought was, “He’ll be gone soon!” Just like Keith and Jenk, one can’t intelligently tell the truth and survive since “Citizens’ United.” And, since “Fox News” is framing the debate and money is behind Fox, I don’t think that even rioting in the streets will change the focus from greed to people. Though I don’t agree with all you propose, I greatly admire your way of interviewing in which you don’t allow the “ditto-heads” to avoid the question by reciting bullet points.Keep up the excellent work as long as you can!
Sincerely,
Tom Quinlan
Mr Ratigan you are the only person on TV who acually talks about real issues and says on air the things that i have been thinking about for years. I don't know if there is any hope for the future for the US because our political system is completely bought and paid for by moneyed special interests and I worry that there is no way back now but the only hope I see is the rage of many, many people and a near revolution that will eliminate the overt bribery and outright purchase of political power that we call "political contributions". I don't know how your employers will deal with the truth you tell but please, please keep doing what you are doing, there are (I believe) millions of otherwise basicly powerless people in this country who agree with your veiws. The "original sin" of this country has always been greed and I am very much afraid that it will totally destroy us but if enough people act together perhaps we can win back our country and we desperatly need people like you to talk truth to power.
I'm mad as hell, too. We need you back on the show. Your rant hit a nerve…we are making the calls you suggested…we are sending emails. If nobody in the government will lead a movement to fix the systemic problems that weigh down our country…you must lead the movement. And, if MSNBC is telling you to dial it back, then MSNBC will lose their audience!
Thank you for letting the truth out, I have shared your opinion for the last five years-seen it coming . Tried in vein to tell everyone in my community, my family, my workplace, my elected officials on both sides only to be told "keep your opinion to yourself". When something is unpleasant to discuss, or when you ask people to think they would rather not. I am a surgeon who is beyond frustration with the system, but an American first who wants to work toward a solution. Honestly you gave me hope yesterday and showing what character with principles actually looks like in a human being. The only thing I am mad as hell about today is why you are not hosting your own show.
run for president
Thank you for not remaining calm and detached and impressing the dire and urgent nature of the situation. I'm glad that you are saying what I and so many others feel about the absolute massive amount of money being wiped off the books
Wake up America. Mr. President grow a pair of balls and come before the American Public and tell all Americans we have a "Bought Congress", and a system that is totally corrupt.
I ,agree ,we have a big problem with this goverment, especial interest roll a big part on the policy agenda and the fogetting what make this country great ,the middle class hard working people of america who buy and spend money on this country and keep the economy groing ,pay taxes and help this country bring revenue and on top of that all that we contribute to our reetirement and medicare that I pay all my working life they wants to destroyed,I agree that the rich of this country should pay their fare share and all this big corporations should not been getting all this tax monney when they are getting record profit ,oil cop.,etc, and look at the price of gas ,all this new politicians (tea patty) should go,we should vote it out.thank you rafael
Dylan, I was watching you rant and thinking "Thank God somebody thinks and teaches what is really going on". I watch and learn something everyday from your show on the economics of the U.S. The things I thought I knew, I found are even worse because there is no plan to fix them.
NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE! I have already emailed members of congress(the word no longer deserves to be capitalized)and have told them I will not vote for ANY incumbent and asked them how it felt to know they will be joining the unemployed lines. Have you? No one will cross the Rubicon for you. Only an army of American citizens can kick the corrupt politicians out and prove that bread and games are not what you want for your children, because eventually even the bread will be taken away. Don't accuse congress of being bought if you aren't willing to give up your own partisanship, your own selfish wants, and aren't willing to send congress the only message they understand– YOU'RE ALL FIRED. Get rid of these incumbent incumbrances. Let's get it done peacefully before it ends up like the riots in other countries, like the old French Revolution of 1789. Write your congress thugs today and tell them to start packing. Or, just sit there and take it some more. Don't let Dylan's words go to the wind; make them count.
You are an American hero, hopefully ears in Washington heard…
I wach your show and you are one of few who really understand what is going on. After your rant my humble opinion is that you should create a third party and run with these ideas
Loved your passionate outburst of truth
A lot of people are aware of this already and have know it for a long time. I wish the president would DO something, but it's quite obvious that he is bought and paid for, too. We all wanted to believe in him; we needed to believe in someone who was finally working for us rather than against us, but we now know that's not reality. HOW ARE WE GOING TO OVERTHROW THIS OCCUPATION AND TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY??!!!! I sit at home, unemployed, facing foreclosure in two months and there really doesn't seem to be anything to live for anymore. However, if I thought we were all actually going to DO something about this, I stand ready to do whatever it takes. I'm willing to put my life on the line, and do my part. I would gladly give my life fighting for this cause. Where the F^%$ is everyone else?
Bravo Dylan:
Thanks for ranting yesterday.I think you scared part of your mega panel;at least Karen. My wife gets upset when I start yelling at the t.v.,because of our lousy congress members and the lousy job the are doing for the good of country as a whole. And this joke of a super committee is never going to work.A waste of time. Why didn't the President follow the Simpson-Bowles Committee recommendations. What a waste of time.I didn't everything about it but over all it was pretty good.I have signed petitions, made calls, and no one seems to be listening.Right now this country needs to focus on jobs.None of the so call financial reforms passed are really going to do much good.It is a helpless feeling.I am retired but I worry about the younger generation and the future of the middle class. Our trade issues are certainly messed up.We don't manufacture hardly anything anymore.Any way thanks for your rant yesterday,i was cheering you on.
Ratigan for President!
What makes you think that the President is not just another bought politician? The evidence of which of our elected politicians are NOT beholden to the wealthy is which are fighting AGAINST the Bush tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires and unwilling to stop Corporate welfare. The "establishment" (the small group of wealthy elite) that controls our government (by pitting each political party against the other in meaningless war) and controls public opinions and attitudes through competing media is the REAL TARGET. Grass roots activism by the public is needed NOW. Too many in America are over worked, apathetic or ignorant to get involved. That has to change. In our Capitalistic economy, greed and competition are considered the highest virtues; is it any wonder that the public has been brainwashed to believe that the Rich should be allowed to get richer and the poor are just lazy and sponging off the system? Bring back the marginal tax rates of the 1950s, Add a Financial Transaction Tax. Use government to put people back to work.
Jay Rockefeller was on C Span maybe last week with other Democrats berating the Republicans for using FA workers as pawns. It was an involved argument and it was successful within a few days. The Republicans voted down the bank bailouts, but after McCain and Obama ran back to Washington to bail out President Bush there was another vote which passed the bill. What a shame. I couldn't recall another instance of a vote being negated like that. I think the connections have to be exposed, like a New York Times investigation because with the Ivy League Crowd in power the only good deals are for them.
God, are you going to fight your way out of Brooklyn, or marry the singer ?
dylan
I saw your tirade and thought it was great. I saw a show last night. It was called debating taboos it was produced by ralph nader. The topic was a 0.25 percent tax on stock and trading transactions. It was excellent it explained that the this tax would raise revenue and that the tax burden would fall on those who trade a lot. They said such a tax would reduce speculation and high frequency trading. This would be a progressive tax and it would fall mostly on the high speed folks it would have tha added benefit of reducing the amount of speculation in the system. They mentioned an alarming stat. for every $1 of legit trading activity there are now $36 of middleman spec trading. I think this is the method used to do the extracing and a tax on this trading activity would reduce it.t
It is so refreshing to hear someone else verbalize what I've been witnessing and discussing with my friends and family for the last several years. Debt ceiling debates and rating agency downgrades are nothing compared to the policy misalignment of this country. Can't wait for your book!
FINALLY! Someone had the insight, clarity, and guts to say what average Americans have been seeing and feeling for years! Keep it up! What a refreshing point of illumination in what is normally a dark morass of double-speak and political nonsense. I can only hope the President is listening! I never understood how Americans can expect any real campaign finance reform to come about when we are asking those that benefit the most from the status quo to make the change? Keep it UP! WE ARE LISTENING!
WHY CAN WE NOT DO A FAIR TRADE AND SWAP IMPORT AND EXPORT TRADE PROGRAM WHERE WHATEVER A COUNTRY CHARGES US WE CHARGE THE EXACT SAME TAX FOR THEIR IMPORTS. WOULD THIS NOT LEVEL THE TRADE
keep up the great job if only our president had some balls he is over his hesd he is a great talker and that is it we the people need to chang the system it stink.GOD help amercia.
Agree with you brother i support you on this. Tell it like it is because its the damn truth.
I applaud you! More people need to speak up. Keep it up.
Yes,I am mad ,how this politician they get in front of the camara and said that is what the americam people wants ,what american people are they talking about, most american people wants is bring revenue to the table dont mess with the social security the program we being paying for ,reform the madicaid not vaucher also we being paying for ,and created jobs ,my be the american people they reference to the one american, (robert norkiwt )he does not represent the middle class he represent the few rich of this country…
Dylan doesn't get much net work coverage, they're again the fire might spread too far!
What about a Bernie Sanders, Dylan ticket?
Or if Senator Sanders isn't available a Elliot Spitzer, Dylan ticket?
How can we harness all of this energy and force the idiots in Congress to do what has to be done to turn things around? There has to be some way to make a difference and to force them to actually represent us and not their corporate sponsors.
What can we do?
Mr. Ratigan, I do not have a TV and thus was not even aware of your existence until I happened across your rant on a blog site I frequent.
I must say I was blown away and still am. It is kind of a moist-eye moment for me because it seems that perhaps all is not lost – somewhere, someone can still stand up and credibly speak the truth, the naked truth indeed. I really had given up on main stream media to ever do so again.
You have my full appreciation and support. Thank you for giving coverage to Ron Paul – but perhaps you could consider running for the Presidency yourself?
Aloha!
Joy Morris
Dylan: That wasn't a rant you gave; it was a truth-telling story about how corrupt our banking/government system has become. There are so many things that we need to do to try recreate a democracy in this country, starting with campaign finance reform (probably never going to happen since it would have be changed by the very people who benefit from the current corrupt system); finance reform ( a mediocre, but at least a start made by the Democratic Congress last year which is being destroyed by the RepubliPlutocrats bit by bit; trade policy (that probably won't be changed by a weakened (self-destructive?) President and a House that is run by people benefiting from the current corrupt system. So, there is probably no viable solution to the problems short of revolution in the streets. That may not be a far-fetched as it sounds (look at Britain) because we have an increasingly under-employed or unemployed youth population that may become as alienated as the youth in the Middle East and elsewhere. The Bush Court with the Citizens decision, the looney tunes of the Tea Party and the Koch Bros./Norquist cabal are destroying our democracy and the President who we all hoped for so much from has laid down and let the bastards run all over him!
Bullseye right on the money Dylan you're what's needed in Washington I for one would like to nominate YOU for PRESIDENT, PLEASE accept someone who would vote for YOU
Was it only 2 mins??? It was an awesome 'shout out' detailing the 'Clockwork Orange' craziness that pervades the country. A growing money river flowing out of the US and channeled into 'accounts' off-shore. And an increasing majority of Americans are PISSED (!!).Totally brassed off with the side-show in DC played out by the political puppeteers… for their commercial 'sponsors'. It was cool to hear the 'big picture' in stark financial terms. Then realise the size of the greedy arrogant waves regularly washing over the masses as a handful of faceless recipients, phantom over the spoils.
Always good to hear this type of corrupt alliance between the politico-industrial complex has been defeated before by previous Presidents and on several occasions. People really are… over the whole circus, …circus? Where are the jobs??!! You're right!… They're greedy bastards and they don't give a damn…it's gonna take more People to 'lose their lunch' over the ludicrous reality they're trying to sell, and the President to lead them..the worst thing to do would be 'nothing' and ever-increasing numbers know it! It was great TV man!!
Dylan, brilliant! The end of the middle class will mean the end of America. We CAN make a difference.
Thank you.
Your honest rant was the best TV "moment of truth" I've ever had the honor to witness. Now, we have to get educated on bank, trade, and tax extractions and how they are working vs how they should work. We must also do something about it.
I do write about some of these issues by commenting on yahoo, Kos, and other political type articles and new stories. I do this just about everyday. I know people are reading them as I get feedback via yahoo updates. One guy called a 'Libtard"…took me several minutes to figure out that he didn't mean "Llibertarian". At least he read what I had to say and "just maybe" he will have a change of heart/mind on some issues one day.
The best thing that could happen to this country is to elect Jon Stewart President, Stephen Colbert, Secretary of State and Dylan Ratigan as Secretary of the Treasury! We could call it the Democracy Party!
I write to my Congressman and my 2 Senators about jobs, taxes, corporate influence, budget, etcetera…but the 2 who are Republicans refuse to budge on their positions. My Congressman's office obviously did some research on me based on the name they used to address me as on his last 2 reply letters. They used my "full" name, first, middle, and last name. I'd not given that information and they had not used my full name in their previous replies. They must know that I do always vote, but it makes no difference so far. My dear hubby wants me to leave the congressman alone because he might try to harm me..LOL. He's concerned because my congressman also owns a funeral home. I think my DH has watched too many shows on HBO.
Is there more I can do? I'll start calling their Washington offices now as well as write to them. Writing to them makes them spend time acknowledging my on-line letter and then, more time, sending me their standard "position" letter a day or two later. Ahhh, the small pleasures in life.
Dylan, lead us and we will follow! You need to team up with Dr. Richard Wolf – Capitalism Hits the Fan, team your ideas with Mr. Wolf then — lead us and we will all fix this crap
I think he's in the right direction, but I think he needs to fully understand The Federal Reserves place in American History and what roles it takes. They basically robbed everyone of gold and gave everyone fiat money to trade, that will eventually becomes completely worthless due to inflation of the monetary base. Youtube's "The American Dream" is a great place to start to learn more about this.
I got pissed then I got sick.
How do I fix this
THANK YOU for telling it like it is. You totally rock. Mr. President, the ball is your court.
Speaking as a Progressive (I no longer call myself a progressive Democrat):
Dylan Ratigan is correct — has been for a while — both in identifying the core problems that beset our nation and its economy and in eviscerating both political parties — as well as Wall street — for causing it and allowing it to continue. Unfortunately, we all know President Obama won't do anything like this. Nor will the next Republican president.
There is no solution of which I can conceive. The best idea I have is that we , the American people, vote out all incumbents — ALL of them, the Congress and the President — in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018. By then, even the people we elected in our "throw out all the bums" mode will have been tossed out, as well. Maybe, just maybe, by 2020 they will realize we are serious.
Unfortunately, by then it will probably be too late.
I also want to do away with the electoral college and make every single vote count. I want proper representation by number of people in a state, not just 2 Senators for every state as it is now.. More populated states should have more Senators in Washington DC than the states with low population.
I want everyone to stop blaming SS and medicare for our problems, I want the facts made known. SS is self funded and is simple to fix for year 2036 and beyond…just raise income cap from $106K to $175K or even collect SS from all income. I want people to know that medicare is more cost efffective than private insurance as the medicare costs have risen 400% while private insurers medical costs rose 700%.
Vd, Almost done…Further, I want to live in a civilized society where we care for the elderly, disabled, and poor. I want Christians to start following what Jesus told us to do instead of following those people who "claim" to be Christian and twist our faith to satisfy their greedy self interests.
Oh yes, I also want a recall option on all elected officials, state and national. President Obama must push for change that will actually fix the problem instead of just treating the symptoms. I want a cure. I need him to restore our country to what is was years ago, before the NAFTA agreement and deregulation. That will not make him a dictator. It will make him a hero!
I'm glad you said it & are getting the attention that the "Real Issue" deserves, but from what I saw on Twitter today you seem to have the liberals especially angry. I wish Matthews, Shultz, etc. watched your show & carried the discussion further, though we know it won't happen. Please watch your back at MSNBC, you're severly outnumbered..
If Dylan's comments needed approval before they appeared publicly, we all wouldn't be here.
Atlas Shrugged is no longer fiction.
Great points Dylan. I hope you will support Ron Paul, since he has been saying the same things for decades or run yourself.
THANK YOU for your rant. You were spot on!!!!! The bigger issue IS getting money out of politics. No real gains can occur until that happens. It is also about making rational decisions that are best for the people of this country. Thinking of what benefits others rather than what is beneficial only for me is a start.
I saw the rant on you tube. All I can say, it’s about time someone said it. This country has been under ternary for quite some time now. We need to take it back. I am a Ron Paul supporter and never thought I would hear anyone from MSNBC speak like that. You go man. There are many behind you.
Been saying this for years you got guts saying it on air. We need to identify and name these bought polititians. Pick one obvious bill passed into law name who voted for it who it benifited and how much in bribe I mean campain contibutions were given.
Way to go Dylan. Thanks for being a voice of reason. Maybe you can run for President!! You have my vote!
Dylan, on yesterday's show you suggested that our first shot at "doing something about it" is to educate those in our circle. Maybe I have an unusual circle or maybe it's just my delivery but I have been trying to talk about this subject with my friends and family for a few years now and for the most part, while they might politely listen, they really don't want to hear about it. THEY JUST DON'T CARE. I understand that sentiment, especially when you think we are powerless to make change. And I would throw my hands up too except for the fact that is is exactly times like these that result in the election of dangerous demagogues (and I don't mean Tea Partiers, folks…. I'm talking about truly dangerous demagogues, e.g. Hitler). I'll keep talking (I'm writing a book: How to Lose Friends and Win Enemies) but recognize that you have cred and a platform for delivery with a receptive audience; most of us regular folks do not.
Hi guys,
I'm from Spain and I'm so upset by the US situation, I feel very sorry and indignated.
You are in such a big a loop of corruption and the exit seems so difficult.
For example, how's Ratigan going to win the elections without the money of banks/corporations?
All the voter sees are the flashy campaigns that needs lots of money…
Well i can't express myself as i would like, don't have enough english knowledge.
All i can say is : Wake up! Power to you people!
Please don't let this "wake up call" go by the wayside. Keep Mr. Ratigan's words alive. Wouldn't it be nice if these words were echoed in some of the upcoming presidential debates! Think any of them will have the guts?
SPEAK UP AMERICA…IT IS YOUR RIGHT AND YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!!!
It’s refreshing to hear any member of the press tell the truth about how our financial system is “working” these days, and how complicit our leaders are in allowing this situation to continue. I’m just one of the many people who have passed on this video to our readers.
Thanks for speaking out. I hope the financial companies that own and support your network don’t decide to do to you what they did to Cenk Uygur.
Spectacular…i want you for president…
fire congress… all of them…
payola rules the the rulemakers…
Please, please, PLEASE continue the excellent work in your attempt to educate the American people in general and your listeners specifically. Although he is often mis-quoted and sometimes ill-used, Jefferson had it right.
"I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power." –Thomas Jefferson, letter to William Charles Jarvis, 1820
There is a movement – it's called the coffee party – I'm not into 'mob' mentality, but you're right we need a common ground here. This group isn't a "Tea Party" wanna be as they're out to educate not just pontificate. Check them out – all walks of people with different ideologies are joining. You take an oath of civility with the idea that 'debate' is healthy and education based on facts is key.
I've never heard of you, but that was brilliant.
Can anyone tell me if this is for real? http://www.unelected.org/audit-of-the-federal-reserve-re... Dylan?
It's true that Congress is owned, but what Dylan Ratigan is still looking to Mr. hope and change (Obama) for the answers. What Ratigan didn't state in his passionate rant, is that Obama is owned as well.
One of our founding fathers stated that "the price of democracy is eternal vigilance". I don't think that many Americans are paying this small price. This is why the special interests can buy off our politicians and we all get brainwashed by adverisements and politicians who say and do things that make no sense! Thank you Dylan for bringing all the insantity out in the open. It is time for Americans to wake up or this country is going down.
A new race is already in progress and if we don't wake up and start running we will not be the winners.
• A Power Crisis is on its way – we need to be in-front on new energy innovations, if we are not we will not just be sending money to China for plastic junk we buy at Wal-Mart.
• A water crisis is looming.
• Nuclear weapons are in the hands of unstable regimes. We must lead the way to rid our planet of these weapons. A global financial crisis will mean ZERO in the shadow of WW3 nuke style.
Dylan. You are invited to break bread in my house anytime you wish. You sir, are a patriot, an honest man, a man of integrity, and an inspiration.
When you finished your rant, I embedded it in an email and sent it out to 40 people. My wife posted it on her FB page then turned to me and said, "what a breath of fresh air he is".
Dylan, I guess what causes the frustration and visceral, gut wrenching anger to pent up is really three issues: First that we have taxation without representation as reflected by our establishment bought and sold congress AND administration. Second, having the corporate establishment media insult our intelligence on a daily basis with distortions, misdirections, distractions, demonization, omissions, and outright fabrications. Nothing stirs the belly with rage more than being treated like a complete jerk on a daily basis. Then there's the slothful, willfully ignorant, cowardly and materialistic sheep call the American Consumer. Consumers digest their news like a happy meal. In a few bites, on the run, without giving it much thought. I am beginning to think that this has been done with intent as no man is more enslaved than the one that thinks he is free. The people replying here are not consumers. They are citizens. So I guess the onus is on us citizens to stand up and find a way to package wholesome food (knowledge) ino a happy meal that our consumer neighbors will eat. No easy task given that the McDonalds of information (lamestream media) is our competition.
May I remind everyone that Dylan is but one voice. We have to work on either marketing our message to consumers, or find a way to convert them to citizens.
Thank you Dylan.
I have so much I would love to say in response, but I'm almost speechless….YES! You said it ALL for us! I've been thinking back to former recessions and such myself, and have been wondering….what will America do? Are we still an America which will pull together, rise up from the ashes, and stand strong arm in arm again? I truly can't say I know whether we are or aren't. So many people have skewed perceptions of the things going on around here…the trash that is happening RIGHT UNDER OUR NOSES! I'm sure our founding fathers are turning in their graves! Everything this beautiful country was founded on is being stripped from it…when you take the foundation out from under the building, the building becomes weak and feeble. This being said, how can we expect our country to withstand the storm when we have removed the foundation?! Rather, we should expect nothing less than the unstable, decrepit state we are in. Until we pull our heads out of the sand and refuse to continue to allow the corruption, deceit, and guile to carry us furthur down the river we are certain to drown!
I've been mad as hell for a long time, but as long as those with power run the show it's like being pissed because I am loosing money in a Las Vegas Casino… not only the odds are on the house, but the game has been rigged removing even the possibility of winning by mistake. And if and when someone gets a lucky break for some miracle the rules of an already fixed game are changed once more to ensure the house will always come out on top.
No… I am not cynical, I sadly have still half a brain working and wide awake which has managed to remain as such despite all attempts of mass lobotomy perpetrated on all US citizen whether by biased and piloted media, delusional policies, political demagoguery, nonsensical mass apathy, you name it…
The few who are still awake are being ignored and those who dare to disagree are opposed by democrats because some of their arguments sound to conservative and republican-like, by the republicans because their complaints sound too liberal and leaning too much on the democratic agenda! They get labeled as socialists or communists from blistering idiots who don't even know what those words mean, just because they disagree with many of te current policies and are calling for a government of the people, for the people and above all by the people. Enough with inept and corrupt representatives who are in the pocket of banks, corporations, general particular interest! Those of us who dare oppose the at least at an ideological level the current demise and selling of US to the world bank are being called reactionaries, lunatics and conspiracy theorists… those of us who disagree with the a foreign policy still hell-bent on piling up debt and continue the country's destruction of reputation are being called unpatriotic despite calling for bringing troops home and stop the nonsensical military spending. Funny how today supporting policies that will destroy one's country can be considered patriotic instead of high treason. Perhaps the age of Idiocracy has already started a while ago and I've been just too naive believing that the US was still the great country one reads about in books… perhaps that was an illusion kept up by Hollywood rehashing the few shiny moments of a past ancient history that no longer applies.
Mad as hell? I passed that stage, now I am trying to survive and keep my sanity.
I learn alot by listening to you about what is going on with our country. Now if we could as a "people" stand up and fight for what is our rights, it would be great. But No only tea party people are standing up. Thats why we are losing.
Dylan—–you said what we all say every day—–politicians—our political system——it's bought and paid for. Now that it has been said—loud and clear—for everyone to understand——how do we get Washington to admit and change it????? As my wonderful Mom use to say—–Money talks, B.S. walks.
This IS your defining moment, make a stand. The people will listen if you're sincere and follow those who have sacrificed to get us to this point in time. Central Planning has failed every Govt in history, and will fail our way of life. Make A Stand, Damn the Torpedoes…
keep up the good work we are mad as hell too! JIM AND DENNIS MINNESOTA
Dylan, think of those who have Truly sacrificed defending the idea of America. WWII comes to mind. They gave their lives for the US & our Capitalistic way of life. Capitalism is the best system to create humanitarian wealth on this planet (Peace Corp, Red Cross, 1000's of Charities, Harnessing Electricity, Innovations, Life Saving Medical Services, making life better in general) than all the other systems (Socialism, Communism, Warlord) COMBINE.
It's time to Hammer the BIG Govt, Central Planners once and for all…stand up for those who have Truly sacrificed for our way of life and call those who want Big Govt Central Planning what they are – Communists.
I'm a Fiscal Conservative, don't really watch MSNBC that much do to that fact, have no real idea what party affiliation you are Mr. Ratigan (and I could care less to find out) and I would vote for you. You hit the nail on the head. Very nice and wonderful to see some passion instead of another politician simply trying to cover his own backside.
You go guy!
Your passion and your commitment to protecting a way of life which we have all fought for…along with all of those who have supported you throughout these blogs, represent the TRUE AMERICANS that we know and love. It has been with great sadness and concern to watch our sister country fall to the hands of corruption and greed perpetuated by an evil and unconscionable few. And yet, we are inspired and touched to see people like you Mr.Ratigan, who actually stand up and fight for the principles for which we all aspire to live and give our children. The world is watching and YOUR voice is being heard!!! By your words…we too are hopeful that you will continue to lead the true Americans and remove the cancer from your country. From Canada…we commend you and strongly encourage you to fight this battle. For which you have recognized, this truly represents nothing less than the life and soul of your great country!
Sir, you are my hero. I do not always agree with you but your passionate and spot on analysis of the root cause of our current crisis of confidence was spot on. Even when impassioned you are on point and articulate. I learn important things from you — usually when you abandon the teleprompter. How about reaching out to Elizabeth Warren and the two of you running for senate in 2014?
But the President is bought too! No matter. as a society, it is becoming more painful to obey, than it is to restart from zero.
to my eyes not extraction but rendition, extraordinary.
thanks dylan ratigan
its time to call it like it is there is a conspiracy by the repubs to take down lower class America. the lobbyist banking and the corporate sectors are all part of it, not mention the supreme court. the crew at msnbc needs to get together to tighten the noose on the bastards. ed has his 622639 number for questions. each commentator from martin bashire to ed need to have a number to vote on questions ask. this is basically our only voice we have. this is better than any poll because everybody knows the question that represents the answers. these answers can be shared between shows to show the true American sentiment.
America has cancer, and it is hastily dying. Peter Drucker said it best in 1980 in his book, "Managing in Turbulent Times": A business [make this the United States] needs to distinguish between the wrong kind of growth and the right kind of growth, between muscle, fat and cancer. The rules are simple: Any growth which, within a short period of time, results in an overall increase in the total productivities of the enterprise's resources is healthy growth. It should be fed and supported. But growth that results only in volume and does not, within a fairly short period of time, produce higher overall productivities is fat. A certain amount of fat may be needed; but few businesses suffer from too little fat. Any increase in volume that does not lead to higher overall productivity should be sweated off again. Finally, any increase in volume that leads to reduced productivities, except for the shortest of start-up periods, is degenerative if not pre-cancerous. It should be eliminated by radical surgery—fast." [page 48]
You the man Dylan! I love your show, everytime I watch your show I can feel my brain is going to explode from information overload. The only thing I can say to help the process move to action is that your message is not being heard by enough people. I never hear what you are saying on CNN, FOX, or CNBC. You obviously have concensous about your insights, but you need to find a way to drill your message into the minds of ALL Americans. You should challenge President Obama in a primary, even if you don't win you will still have been given a larger platform to reach more people. Just keep repeating the message over and over and over, and maybe the people and the president will get it and change will come for real.
You are continuing to teach us everyday Dylan. I really liked the conversation on your show yesterday, Monday, with the panel about "causes" of the problem. At least all the panel seemed to agree that money greatly influences politicians and the policies they make.
I still believe we must get money out of campaigns to stop the power of the large corporations who are the major campaign and Super Pac donors here in the US. We need to do something similar to what they do in England with campaigns instead. Your Brtish panel member knows what I'm talking about. I'm hoping you will discuss solutions soon too.
I have today's show on my DVR and will watch it shortly. I'm looking forward to learning more and to finding some solutions that we can fight for soon too. Keep it up!
How do we get a push for a constitutional amendment against money in politics started? I am ready and eager to work in whatever way I can to get it done. We have many problems in America but at the core is the plutocracy. Time to take power back for we the people.
I completely agree with you Dylan. It seems like everyone is so whipped up in a frenzy against either the Republicans or Democrats and nobody realizes they're both the same thing and that our real enemy isn't from the left or the right but the widespread political corruption throughout the entire system. The way I figure it both the left and the right ultimately want what's best for the country, even if they go about it in different ways, but the corporate lobby groups and bought-out congressmen and such make both subservient to the selfish and destructive will of the rich. I sure hope they don't fire you over this because its one of the only truthful things I've seen on TV news and its getting unanimous praise from countless regular guys like me in these comments.
We keep blaming President Obama for not only The United States, problems but now the worlds problems, Why don't we look at the person who started 2 wars to pay for, not going after the right person in the first place. Our Shock and Awe gas prices. Haliburtin and how they all Made off, and got away with it. Everytime we go to the pumps our former president is collecting from his deeds to America. Why is America and beyond not saying his name? Let's be honest, we never could afford two wars at the same time, especially Iraq never having anything to do with 911, or Weapons of Mass Distruction. American Hitler.
Dylan,
I stopped believing in Barack Obama three months after he was elected president. For God;s sake! His entire Cabinet are nothing but Wall St. Zionists. I knew as a Progressive, we didn't have a shot, and I was right. Obama is not a Marxist or a Communist as Tea Party people screech. And some of the ridiculous talking heads on MSNBC, wrongfully call him a Progressive, which is laughable. Simply put he is a Corporatist. He has done everything to enrich the corporations and impoverish the American people more and more. Impoverishment of the populace, diminishing of the middle class, is the dictum handed to him by his puppetmasters when he met with them at Chantilly, VA and was given their guarantee of the presidency, telling Hillary to step down. She was too indepependent for them. He was malleable. Please recall the words of war criminal Henry Kissinger his mentor on the floor of the NY Stock Exchange January 2009. "Barack Obama will be the architect for the New World Order." You all know the New World Order. It's the same one George Bush, Pappy Bush, and Clinton spoke about when they were president. You see they too had the same puppetmasters. What is taking place in our once great country is planned. I believe it is not inevitable. We are greater in number, and if we organize and follow what Dylan is laying out, we can kick the hell out of all of them.
We hear you, Dylan!
I I am a Gen X’r. Generation X (+ I will add those born after 1959) is submissive to paying the price for the greed of the baby-boomers. We were breed to expect less and that is exactly what we got. I am frustrated that my cynical generation that let the boomers bully their debt and blame onto us. Suddenly the boomers are worried about their children’s future. It took them long enough I assume because many was almost middle aged when they started a family. They want to cut entitlements for me and mine aided by the very obedient Xers. A majority of Xers are more comfortable being told what to do rather than think for ourselves. For example the tea-party Xers sign pledges, can’t compromise, and are scripted with talking points both mindless and obedient. Paul Ryan my fellow gen Xer and baby boomer tool said it all in his budget. Anyone under 55 gets to fund Medicare benefits they will never enjoy and by the time the majority of us are retired or close to it the contributions towards Medicare will be drastically reduced. How nice for the boomers but not so nice to say the least for the Xers and half of the Ys because we are getting scr@%!wed on both ends. I am as mad as hell at my generation?
Many of our politicians are nothing more than money collectors. In medieval times they would be called carpetbaggers. They should hold terms of possibly two years and not more than four. If one does not do their job they should be removed and replaced by someone HONEST (imagine that) who has a sincere desire to improve our country and the lives of its people!!
My husband and I watch your show consistently. Thank you for your efforts and caring enough to make a diiference for our country. We are ready to sign the 'amendment' when it is completed.
Suggestion for CONGRESSIONAL REFORM ACT OF 2011:
1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.
2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.
3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. (continued)
3.
CONGRESSIONAL REFORM ACT OF 2011 (continued):
5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12.
The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term, then go home and back to work.
People need to pay into social security taxes, as long as they're working. They need to stop cutting off social security taxes at 75,000. This would make SS solvent.
I am a 66 year old retiree and I have been mad as hell all year .What can stir up seniors because we are about to be screwed by this inept and impotent Congress. I voted for a President who wants to act as a mediator rather than a leader. We need to take action and effect change through people power. You need to fire up seniors with strategies we can use with our local politicians. Thanks.
It’s about time somebody had the “B***s” to use a nationaly televised program to take the sugar out of the candy and feed the American public a dose of reality.I’ve been working for 42 years and last year I retired.I thought I deserved it.However, after a meeting with my financial advisor I quickly realized that I wasn’t looking at financial stability for my “Golden Years”I was looking at something that looked like a dried up proon.Long story short,I had to go back to work.Collage educated,30+ years of administration and supervisory I’m now working 2nd. shift and making 11.00 an hour.I’m Mad as Hell also!Your a good guy Dylan I’ve been followin you since your MSNBC debut.I’ll “Sign” and I will work the entire state of Iowa if I have to,to get signatures.God bless you buddy I,m with you 100%.
Where's the petition you need me to sign to get the money out of politics?
Its about time that someone has yelled its just too bad that people (some) are not into finding out what is going on behind the scenes when it comes to our politicians. You have me on your list of getting the news out and getting something done.
YOU DA MAN DYLAN.THE ONLY ONE WITH THE CAJONES TO TELL IT LIKE IT IS.THE CONGRESS AND THE PRESIDENT ARE IN IT FOR THE MONEY.THE MONEY THAT THEY GET FROM BIG BUSINESS.THE SUPREME COURT SHOULD BE IMPEACHED FOR GIVING CORPS.THE RIGHT TO GIVE AS MUCH $ AS THEY PLEASE TO CONGRESSMEN.THOSE NEWLY ELECTED REPUBLICANS.CAN`T FIND THEIR ASS WITH 2 HANDS.THEY VOTE FROM WHERE THE $ COME,BIG CORPS.
Sometimes I think we really need to undergo a severe depression to shake this country out of the state we are in at this moment in history. Here we have a congress trying deliberately to keep the economy in a failing state until the next election so they can win. The only thing which stops me from actually promoting this is the severe pain it would cause so many people who are doing nothing more than trying to survive the present congress and their allegiance to those who are hoarding all the money in the country. However, if all the big banks and big oil companies and big financial institutions fail at once, even their ceo's and stockholders would have to undergo that pain. Perhaps we could all share that pain once again and restart the USA once again as a country where liberty and justice are truly for ALL. Not just the privileged few.
When will the petition finally be ready for my immediate signature!
face it- when politicians get big money in campaign contributions, they are a bit beholden to those who make those contributions- the wee people (us working shlubs) don't have enough money to buy democracy–we have no voice in our government– thomas jefferson must be spinning-i get alittle mad when our congressmen are making about 174,000 dollars (a salary that i pay for) and i can not be heard– these tea party jerks don't have a clue either–wake up don't get your news from fox or any other network-read anewspaper, watch the bbc to find out what is really going on in this country-we need to take it back -do not be dumbed down and complacient question authority say no to companies and corporations that outsource jobs so they can save a buck(they're getting subsidies anyway) no off-shore tax shelters (i pay taxes-why should they get abreak?) bank bail outs? yeah they need the money the people of america are having a hard time—stop the bullshit –vote these old dragons out be brave cross party lines take us back to what we fought for -maybe then we could gain the respect that we once had–i love my country i just hate what these jack-offs in my government are doing to it–
I can't any better than Dylan. Until we the people get off our back side our crap government will continue
to walk all over us with bogus representation. As Dylan said, its all about getting themselves re-elected,
when will we learn. This country is so close to collapse its not even funny anymore. Dylan is correct about
Obama who is the worst Pres. ever, if he went to the people and admitted that what Dylan mention, even I
would support. Government is not going to change until WE change.
Do the listeners of Dylan Ratigan know the Pres. and his scum Democrats have drafted a bill that will be
proposed after the 2012 elections, assuming Obama gets re-elected, this bill will impose a percentage fee
for every financial traction you make. Go to Snoops.com and you can read the proposed bill. These guys are
all a bunch of sneeks and liers. WE need to STOP them before we are completely destroyed.
I wish you were Pres. and Jack Cafferty VP. The 2 most common sense guys on network informational programs. And you know what the hell your talking about ALOT more than every one put together on fox " news".
Thank you for keeping the pressure on our flawed system and it's participants'.
we are all mad as HELL and we won't take it anymore. NOW LETS MOVE, and force our "Rep's" (Ha) move on it by getting everyone to sign thiss petition.!!!
Until you change the way money works, you change nothing. We are a spoiled nation. How many of you are willing to go to your bank and remove your money? Exactly, Oh, I cant do that. Well yes you can. Do you realize that for every dollar you have at your bank the bank creates "funny money" which is exactly why we are in the mess we are in. Ok, have I lost you. Lets say you deposit $10.00, the bank then can lend up to $90.00 because they base this on the fact that most people will not pull there money out. It is a Ponzi Scheme at its finest. Dylan has every right to express his frustration and if it gets more people "AWAKE" then rant away.
we cannot work with Republicans. For years, they have slowly manipulated our Supreme Court, our legislature, our basic rights such as to vote, and seem to conspire with the wealthiest and unknown doners to take over the USA. Once the money is in their hands, the rest of us will no longer be welcome. We fought a Revolution to free ourselves from Great Britain and now we are watching a definite push toward having to answer to a religious group. We listen to lies from Politicians and watch big money take away our rights. We need to fight this and replace the Republican Party with a new party that will offer platforms verus the Democratic Party. There is little chance that the GOP will ever return to reasonableness and will be willing to compromise. They do not even listen to the Americab people telling us that they know better what we Americans really need. Sorry but that can smack of totalitarianiam. I am 80 and I saw WWII and had reletives in it who fought for a direction so different from where we are. Big business is now acting like an enemy of the Amerioan people holding back from allowing a return to more normalcy. I do believe that many are in that top 450 richest Americans who are now plotting the demise of our Middle Class. I agree we need infrastructure work and laws to CONTROL banks and Wall Street to stop further financial shenanigans bent to profit only a very few while taking down the rest of the people. Since the GOP has been bought and signed petitions to prevent any growth in OUR markets, we must look elsewhere. They no longer belong in the equation. All roads lead to Grover Norquist. Ket us take back our Nation that we all helped build and add laws that will see to it that we are truly constitut5ionally protected from take-overs by a do-nothing Party who like to just filibuster and block a President’s chances of being re-elected rather than do the Nation’s real business.
How do I add my name to the petition?
Go to <a href="http://www.getmoneyout.com” target=”_blank”>www.getmoneyout.com!
Who is this guy and why isn't he running your nation? Dylan Ratigan for president!
I would like to know how many of our congressmen are millionaires and therefore not wanting to pass laws for them to pay more taxes.
Another thing I want to know: How can we change congress when they pass laws that help themselves. Other then voting them out (which takes several years) what remedy do we have?
I think WE should decide when they get raises, what they get for perks, etc. I would start with cutting their pension in half immediately.
Thank you for all the research you have been doing and sharing it with us. GREAT JOB!
I loved the Rant Goverment should be afraid of its people not the other way around
SCOUTING NY » Something Strange in Herald Square
Definitely consider that which you stated. Your favourite reason appeared to be at the net the easiest factor to remember of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed whilst people think about worries that they plainly do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the highest as neatly as defined out the entire thing with no need side-effects , other people could take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thank you
What about insider trading being legal for congressmen and senators?
I do agree with all of the ideas you’ve presented to your post. They are really convincing and can certainly work. Nonetheless, the posts are too short for beginners. May just you please prolong them a little from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.
