Guests and Topics for Monday, April 30 2012
April 30, 2012Coming up on the show today… both the natural and man-made threats to our nation’s power grid were the topic of a Washington hearing today, focusing on the North American Electric Reliability Corporation. We’ll talk to Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer from the Center for Advanced Defense Studies & National Security Senior Advisor, and Dr. Peter Pry. Peter believes that NERC is leaving the US vulnerable to attacks that could cause a loss of electrical power to most of the nation. How much of a possibility is that? We’ll talk to Lt. Col. Shaffer and Dr. Pry to get their take.
The Monday Megapanel: Imogen Lloyd Webber (@illoydwebber), Tim Carney (@tpcarney) and Sam Seder (@samseder) are here.
Occupy Wall Street protestors and other groups are planning a national day of action tomorrow (check out the buzz on Twitter here.) At noon on May Day tomorrow, guitarist and activist Tom Morello (@tmorello) will arrive at Bryant Park in New York to help enlist thousands to guitarists, string players and singers to take part in Occupy Guitarmy. We’ll hear from him on that, and check out the newly released documentary, The World Wide Rebel Tour.
The Specialist: The Cost of the Crisis – Dennis Kelleher, President & CEO of Better Markets will join us. The financial industry only talks about costs to them, but what what was the real cost of financial collapse to American families and our culture? Those costs total trillions of dollars and have created worldwide suffering for a bill that won’t be fully paid until the next generation.
Dealing with Life’s Challenges: Our resident guru Deepak Chopra (@deepakchopra), prolific writer and author of the new book, Spiritual Solutions: Answers to Life’s Greatest Challenges. In it, Deepak focuses on awareness as the greatest key to personal success and achievement — think of it as the way we think about being “awake”. For example: Can a stagnant career be jump-started? What’s the best way to deal with a passive-aggressive friend? In a world full of distractions and stress, how does one find time for meditation? We’ll talk to him about that and more.
The Daily Rant: Keli Goff (@keligoff) of TheLoop21.com talks about her new article on why Michelle Obama would make a better Presidential candidate than her husband.
As always, we’ll see you at 4PM on Twitter @DylanRatigan to participate in our never-ending conversation on the topics that come up on the show!
