Guests and Topics for Friday, May 4th 2012May 4, 2012
Here’s what we’re working on for the show today….
We’ll start off with the numbers out of today’s jobs report (115k jobs created out of the 30 million we need!) — we’ll be joined by Peter Morici (@pmorici1), Professor at the Smith School of Business of University of Maryland and Jared Bernstein (@econjared), Senior Fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. As regular viewers of the show know by now, we need about 300k jobs created each month to get a real dent in the unemployment picture.
The Friday Megapanel is here, with Ari Melber (@arimelber), Krystal Ball (@krystalball1) and Toure (30 Rock). We’ll take a look back at some of the biggest stories of the week: the new U.S. agreement with Afghanistan, keeping us there until 2024, today’s weak jobs report, and a diplomatic crisis that overshadowed economic talks in China.
The Specialist: Shaun Rein (@shaunrein) will be here to continue the week-long conversation we’ve been having on the challenges, opportunities and dangers of our trade and political relations with China. He’s the author of “The End of Cheap China: Economic and Cultural Trends That Will Disrupt the World.”
To wrap up the show, we’ll get caught up with John Duffy, CEO of 3Cinteractive, who we met on the 30 Million Jobs tour. We’ll talk to him about what startups can do for unemployed and underemployed young people, since 1 out of every 2 are currently jobless or unemployed. Then, Toure will “turn the tables” and host the DR Show for a moment — he’s going to explore where America’s going, and what’s driving it there. Tune in to see who his special guest is.
